I had 4 days and I blew it again last

I had 4 days and I blew it again last night, I’m starting smart recovery tomorrow night and I’m going to check in every night to confirm I’m still sober.
I am at my wits end and I have to get off this merry go round.

This may be a dumb question. But what’s smart recovery?

It’s a program of self help that you can do in person or on Zoom meetings. Google it. I have been to one meeting and I am going to continue.
They work with addiction issues and some other things.

Why did you drink Doug?
I've never heard of anyone who went back out and came back that said things got better. Only worse.

It's called believing the LIE;
That this time, everything will be OK. But it never is, is it?

It doesn’t matter how many times you fall , it only matters how many times you get back up. We all make mistakes every single day, don’t dwell on them learn from them….

I drank for a really stupid reason… which they all are. But I went on a date and she was drinking… This is another area I need to learn to navigate… dating…

If you'll allow me to make a suggestion, do you think you can leave women alone until you have one year sober?

That was what my sponsor asked me in 2003. I didn't understand it at the time but I really had nothing to offer the opposite s-x. I couldn't stay sober and could hardly take care of myself much less anyone else.

Staying away from people who drink and places that serve alcohol in the beginning is a smart idea too as you just learned.

Remember that we deal with alcohol. Cunning, baffling and powerful.

Keeping to myself for several years showed me that I was co-dependant. At age 42 i had never lived on my own before, paying my own bills.
I was a drunk from the start. Driving trucks gave me a place to sleep every night.

I have a long list of good things living alone taught me. I finally met the woman of my dreams in 2015. We were married 2019. I had to bring her here from the Philippines.

Today, I have nothing to cry about. I did relapse in 2011. Cost me 3 yrs. I too had once believed the lie. It was a big lesson for me. I now have over 8 yrs.

You can too if you take a break. First Things First.
Don't drink. One day at a time. And go to meetings.
