Substances are addictive. Most addicts avoid withdrawal. It's more accurate to say we're addicted to dopamine because we almost always replace it with something else. For me right now it's pickles, fruity candy and social media
Ice cream and jelly beans for me
Social media is a huge one for me too. Smh
I agree 100%, I need something to excite my brain, buying stuff on E-Bay seems to work ( for know) lol
Ice cream
Energy drinks & coffee
Ice coffee with 2 shots of expresso!
The longer weβre sober, the more we can upgrade our dopamine sources: exercise, creating stuff, real connection, and accomplishing things. The creative aspect keeps me going .
Nobody mentioned making love!
The real transition is quick gratification to prolonged gratification. Iβm still learning the balance
That is very true of many of us. I replaced one 'high' for another until I got back to meetings.
After the drugs and alcohol it was gambling, including online gambling. The combination of all three led me on a downwards spiral. However, any one of them would lead to all of them.
I quit all 3 on the same day over 2 years ago.
Gradually, I replaced the various highs for service.
The programs work if you let them.
I do certain things in moderation, including music, social media, and streaming movies.
However, what I consume via these is very different today.
The algorithms now provide positive content.
Sharing my story and being grateful for what I have today gives me peace.
As someone who suffered from a process/behaviour addiction, I wholeheartedly agree that people get addicted to dopamine.
