I hate what I've done because of my actions, I'm filled with shame and I feel I'll never be the same again...
The thing is we're never the same, we're always evolving. No one stays as a single point in time. Yes, what we've done can be shameful but being aware and striving to not do those things again makes us into better people. I found the shame greatly diminished the longer I was sober. It becomes in context of when you were sick and did the things sick people do to cope etc. Hope you find some solace and know more understanding comes with time.
Things are never the same, but they can get better. And you can change, looking back at that old you with regret, but pride that you are someone better today.
Change those thoughts.. resist them .. our mind tells us those things to keep us down ! Keep positive thoughts Only !
I can't speak for everyone, but I know most ppl in recovery go through those feeling ngs of shame at some point. Look at it as a positive cuz u are acknowledging your disease. Most ppl don't go through addiction without doing something we are ashamed of. That's the disease and what it does. Dont be too hard on yourself cuz u have already taken a big step and that's something to be very proud of. Bad thoughts are temporary, and they will pass. Our disease tells us we are pos to get us back into addiction. It's not about what u did, it's about how u are trying to make things right. U should be very proud of yourself just for taking the sobriety route cuz it's not easy in any way. Focus on the good things u are doing in your life and progress u made, not past mistakes. Keep things u are ashamed of and their consequences in the back of your mind to remind yourself why u don't wanna give in to your disease but don't let them run your life or define who u are today sweetheart. U have made the choice to change your life and that means letting go of things u might have done. I don't think anyone in sobriety can say they haven't done something they are ashamed of cuz addiction doesn't discriminate.....u aren't alone in your feelings, remember you are just as much worthy as anyone else. We all have our faults and focus on positivity like the last comment said. That's the key to staying sober.....good luck sweetheart and u will get through this as long as u want to.
Thank you. That means a lot to me.
I’ve been feeling this way lately too, but just keep pushing through. You aren’t alone in this
