James, for me relapse isn’t a part recovery. Recovery means you are recovering from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. I struggled with quitting on my own. I had no program before. Therefore I’d relapse or think that since I had three years sober I could drink like a gentleman. If I relapse now I’m not coming back. I don’t have another recovery in me. Its either death or institutions…
Recovery is recovery. Relapse while in recovery means one didn’t work the program honestly. Or there was no program.
Work a program of recovery daily and zero relapse will be the result…
Lapses happen. Do we learn from them?
It absolutely is part of recovering from an addiction. The worst thing you can do is to give into shame and guilt if you lapse. Don’t ever think you can’t get sober! If you are alive and breathing, you can! Intense shame over a relapse can even lead to suicide. Many people have to try over and over again in order to reach lasting sobriety.
I think it is a part of it considering I sadly relapsed the other day after 9 months clean from alcohol but I managed to pull myself out and get myself into a sober living program and it’s all part of one’s journey within their own recovery
Beautiful Boy is free to watch on Amazon Prime, it’s a recovery movie that touches on this topic
I’m in a residential drug treatment program and we learned here that relapse is a part of recovery.
Yes that makes so much sense I am so in control of my life and everything that I just don’t want to give myself to people. I’ve been in the program since I was 18 and had so many bad experiences I’m just having a hard time letting go letting God and trusting this program that is let me down so many times. So all I can do is say God just send me the people that actually are working the program trying to screw you and they really are wanting to help you. That’s where I am
I’m in a rehab right now I relapsed I do not recommend it. The misery suffering and lying stinks I wouldn’t view it as part of the journey. Only thing I can say is never stop coming back never stop coming back and you’re way better off just staying.
Absolutely. However, you’ll get sick and tired of relapsing. It’s a bumpy ride … until it’s not anymore. Stay strong
Addiction can have a tight grip and sometimes “loosening” that grip takes time.
But never think your relapse was a failure it’s an opportunity to learn more about your addiction. A chance to gain more motivation to be sober.
Is failure a part of success?
In the event you are asking if relapses happen to people who become sober and are able to maintain their sobriety then the answer is yes.
We’re not saint’s.
When a foundation is laid no more digging takes place.
Let’s build something together an stop fighting each other…
I used to drink regularly. I’d be drunk, not every day, but at least a couple of times per week I would binge drink. I was that way for a number of years until I quit drinking at age 50. I was clean and sober for 9 years and then my dad passed away the week before Christmas and 3 days before my mom’s birthday. They were married 67 years. I was distraught and depressed and I went into a funk. The holidays were just awful. I already suffer from depression and it was off the charts. One night about 5 weeks after my dad passed I slipped and had a couple of drinks. Two exactly. I knew it was wrong. I knew I screwed up and I fell asleep. The next morning I was full of self loathing and regret, but glad it didn’t go further. I haven’t had another drink since. Since I didn’t get drunk, I didn’t count that as a full relapse, but a slip. It was part of my recovery in that I was able to control it that time and not completely fall off the wagon. I’m sure I’m not the only one to ever do this. So to answer the question. Yes, relapse can be part of recovery. I wouldn’t have been able to do this years ago, nor wanted to stop.
No its not ..if u taking all the suggestions and believing in hp
The only scary thing I think is thinking from the start you have a relapse waiting on you in your recovery. You might not have another recovery left in you.
If you've got it, try your damnedest to keep it and not think that when one thing tragic enough happens that is when it is ok to let it go.
Relapses are probably the most part of recovery, they show how resilient we are when we come back to program and claim our day 1. Relapses can be a learning experience for us. To see where we can improve our dedication and tools in recovery. Relapse is apart of my recovery and I have learned so much by coming back each time. It’s not about the fail, it’s about how we rise from it.
It doesn’t have to be. U have to ready to change and go in 100%!! And this from a guy who recently relapsed. It doesn’t have to go that way but it’s up to u!
I feel relapse is definitely a part pf RECOVERY. I can't count how many times I've lapsed. Needless to say it was a part of my spiritual journey.
I heard someone say that my first time around. I used it as an excuse to drink and use again. Whether I had heard that or not I had reservations to go out again, I just wasn't ready to quit. Thank God the obsession has been lifted.
Happy, joyous and free!
Dang Kev, well put. I read this and thought "This dude got it right" then noticed it was you lol. Good stuff brother.
