Thank you Kim

  1. Call the head office of AA or NA or whatever type of meeting you want to start. Ask for instructions to start a meeting.
  2. Find a local venue such as a church or coffee house or whatever place that has a room and seating. You may need to pay a small monthly fee. The head office may help you pay to get started. Then the member donations will hopefully cover the cost. Coffee houses usually are happy to sell lots of coffee.
  3. Get listed in the meeting guide with head office.
  4. You’ll need to print out the meeting format and put into a notebook for the actual meetings.
  5. Then start. The meetings will start small but keep doing it. You’ll be the secretary to start and need to head hunt speakers etc.

Really feel this. Wanting in-person connection is so real. Zoom is great, but there’s something different about sitting in a room with people who just get it. The fact that you’re even thinking about starting a meeting says a lot about your heart and your recovery. Six years gives you experience, strength, and hope and that’s literally the foundation of a meeting.

From what I’ve learned, you don’t need to have all the answers to start one. Usually it looks like:

Reaching out to the nearest intergroup/central office and letting them know you want to start a meeting.

Finding a small space (church, community center, library room).

Picking a consistent day/time.

Registering it so others can find it.

Even if it starts with just you and one other person that’s still a meeting. Small towns especially need people willing to step up like this. There might be someone quietly struggling who would walk to a local meeting if it existed.

Thanks all
