I have a work happy hour and a friends birthday that I need to attend. I’m definitely not drinking but am for some reason afraid of getting ridiculed for it. I feel like my friends don’t understand what I’m going through since I’ve been on and off with this for years now. They probably think I just go through phases but in reality I’m trying to get myself right. Any advice on how to approach these kind of situations?

Don’t bring it up and act naturally. In all actuality it is none of their business. You could also state health reasons, stomach issues, have to drive somewhere after and can’t drink, just plain don’t feel like it. A trick I used in the beginning was have a coozie to cover your drink. All people see is a top not what’s in it. If it’s mixed drinks, get a yeti cup. Just stay true to your self. Have an escape plan, and someone you can call. You will do good man!
