I have been struggling a lot lately. I quite literally stay at my house because my urge to drink is so intense I don’t trust myself to go anywhere. Been sober almost 7 months with a couple slip ups, but nothing too bad. Right now it’s the only thing I think about. I need advice badly
I can relate, especially with staying at my house. My old friends are all drinkers so I am working on making new friends.
Join a gym, church or AA. Just find something that works for you.
I go to at least 2 meetings a week, gym about every day. Idk man.
Sometimes you have to ball up your fists, get pissed off, and beat the shit out of every day. You WILL WIN THIS.
Do you have anyone in your life that is more important then alcohol is/was to you? For me it’s my daughter. I promised her the day I left for rehab 3 years ago that I’d never have another drink. That promise has gotten me through some tough situations / cravings… I also promised myself I’d never let her down again.
After about a year of sobriety I decided I didn’t want to quarantine myself from “normies” any more. I reached out to a few of my long time friends who I knew weren’t alcoholics but drink socially. I told them that I wanted to restart/renew our friendships, but I needed them to be supportive of my sobriety. I knew the ones I reached out to cared about me, and would do non-drinking activities. Surprise surprise they knew I had a problem all along and have been extremely supportive. Over the past couple years I’ve gotten comfortable with them drinking around me because I know they’ll never encourage me to drink, and even if they did, I have those promises I made to my daughter and my self always in my back pocket. I’ve also made friends in AA and am still friends with a few people from rehab. I’ve even made a couple new good friends who are my daughter’s friends parents and drink socially. With them I sucked up my pride and told them pretty early on that I’m a recovering alcoholic. They were accepting of that so I gave them a chance, and I’m glad I did. Basically, IMO, if you are comfortable in your new sober skin it will be easier to renew friendships or make new friends sober or otherwise. That sober self esteem comes with time. Best of luck Jordan!
