I have had a Vivotrol shot, in December. I have used the Sinclair method, for gradually reducing drinking. I do not drink everyday, and never more than two glasses of wine, when I do. For me the all or nothing method is just too harsh, and in my life too unrealistic. Most people who quit smoking don’t just stop. They may use Chantex, or even Nicolette gum to gradually level off. I think this method changes, habits over a long period of time. I am impressed. and feel excellent and not even tempted to over drink anymore

I don’t think moderation worked for me primarily because I have never wanted to have 2 beers.

Vivian, I also go in for monthly Vivitrol shots. My brother is a salesman for the company that distributes Vivitrol. I just feel compelled to tell you that it is very dangerous to drink or use opiates while getting the Vivitrol shot. You could put yourself into a potential coma, or worse. Please seriously think about this. It is nothing to play with.

Same. For me there was no point to drinking if I didn’t feel buzzed at least.

Moderation with alcohol never worked for me. And when I quit cigarettes 6 years ago, I did it cold turkey. The first 2 weeks were the hardest, and then it got easier.

I’ve never heard of gradually stopping. But the way I drank and drugged there was no moderation. As they say in the rooms “1 is too many and a thousand is never enough” and I live by that. I went through medical detox personally and got the Vivatrol shot after a few weeks of sobriety. I don’t think yours supposed to drink on the shot I would be honest with your doctor about your methods and see what they have to say
