I have lost a job due to my inability to wake up in the morning. Ruined a marriage, and am in a LOT of debt getting booted from my apartment. I have cut back on my drinking. Working on getting to no drinking
Been there, Sean. Even after 5+ months of sobriety I was still sleeping through multiple alarms, and I don’t mean by hitting snooze. I flat-out would never hear any of them. My drinking wrecked my sleep schedule; f*cking obliterated it. It was the only thing that wasn’t improving with sobriety. I even slept late on my first day of work, SOBER!!!!
A funny thing happened between 1-2 months ago. I started waking up to my alarm. H*ll, I’m waking up a few minutes before it goes off now! It’s like a switch was flipped.
My point is this -it takes a long time for the brain to heal. Years and years of abuse can’t be fully undone in a week or two. It took me 9 months of sobriety to get my sleep schedule back.
I feel you on the marriage and debt problems also, as I’ve been there as well. But now one is behind me and even civil, and the other is now manageable.
I not only had to get sober for all of this to happen -I had to RECOVER. My mind, body, and spirit are still recovering today, 11 months later.
What do you want to do, Sean? You are capable of great things, and great things come with sobriety. Greater things come with recovery. I promise you that.
Hang in there bro
I always said that I was " cutting back" or "weening off"
Judging by your scenario ,you, like me need help. A medical detox was best decision I've made in a while. I eventually realized I was full of shite about cutting back and weening off. A medical detox helps with all the withdrawals and monitors your vitals bc quitting booze can be pretty rough physically as well. It's only about 4 days and you feel so much better. I had detoxed in prison and hospital twice....this med detox I actually felt refreshed and had momentum to work on a foundation of sobriety via rehab, sober living, group meetings, etc. I wish the same for you. Medical detox places are all around and most hospitals have a separate program/protocol for alcohol detox. Lemme know if you got any questions.
Good luck
Out of the wreck you will rise brother. I have to continue to use the tools I learned in treatment on a daily basis or everything will go away again. Treatment is a good way to jump start a new life. Stay openminded to what you hear on this platform, people genuinely care and our problems are seldom unique. There are 12 step meetings just about everywhere. Celebrate recovery is a religious based recovery circle if your into that, SMART recovery is more an academic science based approach that’s interesting. Prolly a lot more I haven’t looked into. Going to 12 step meetings wasn’t working for me to start and I had to go through inpatient a couple times but after that things started to make sense. You have to really want it though. Recovery isn’t for those that need it, it’s for those that want it.
Seek treatment asap. It’s time for change Sean! You can do it
Thank you everyone! Very great with the reassurance and people not judging but helping. This means the world.
Hang in there. Get to a A.A. meeting. You don’t have to participate. Just listen and see if you relate with anything being said.
