I have never been a fan of AA I don't

I have never been a fan of AA I don't care for it because I am an addict but have drank. My addiction is more powerful than alcohol and when I speak up in the meetings they tend to quiet me and say this is not NA. I have been going to zoom meeting for almost 2 years now and the reason for that is not the program but the people. They understand I am struggling and need help. They have actually allowed me to speak about my addictions and even make me feel comfortable by saying they once to had the same problem. I am from Connecticut and the meeting I go to is in Pennsylvania. Every local AA meeting I have gone to has told me I need something in person and closer. Hogwash, what I need is people who understand that I am struggling and opening up because I can't do alone and need help. They call me on a daily basis and check in on me when I don't show up. Text me positive quotes and when I say I used they not once have put me down for it. They just say, "I'm glad you showed up, I was there before, this is going to happen but don't let it get the best of you, Thomas we are here for you." That's what I need because all my life I have been told I was an acquired taste that no one can pallet. They pallet me and tell me that you are not alone in this walk. That's what I need not a f**king scripture or rehearsed line you read out of the big book. Because if you want my honest opinion I see that as a book club where everyone just gets a chance to read and share. I don't care what the book has to say, what matters to me is hearing the struggles that people have been through that they got out of. LIFE DECISIONS and which ones they took to maintain sobriety. That's all that I care about. Also, knowing thats it's ok to reach out for help and not to feel worried about asking for it. Does anyone else feel this way and please do not comment if you are going to tell me one day at a time or it gets better. I want to know the struggles that you overcame to get to that positive place your in today.

So you still drink but not a fan of AA because it doesn't cater to your specific addiction? Yeah, it does sound like you're in the wrong room.
The 3rd tradition of AA states the only requirement is a desire to stop drinking. If you don't want to stop drinking then it's probably not for you. That's ok though, there are numerous support groups out there. It may take some effort but you'll find your tribe.

Did you actually read what I wrote or just decide to comment because you heard someone bad mouth AA? I AM NOT trying to be an A**HOLE but you literally just don't get it. I hate repeating myself especially to alcoholics. I said I am more on an addict and drink occasionally when I can't find drugs. I am an addict and if you can't see that then please keep your comments to yourself. I get your trying to help but I'm sure you don't know how to because you've never dealt with addiction. This is why I don't care for the people in AA. They don't get it. They think they have all the answers because they did a step or 2 or read how to help in the big book which ultimately IS 2 stepping and them feeling as if their opinion is going to matter and is the right answer. Clearly if you read what I said you would have never even commented. I want to know what helped you and how you have maintained sobriety. Please STOP commenting if your not going to help.

I am very thankful my small town group is a combo of AA & NA. Most groups don’t function like that and they should. Most everyone 40 and under has more than just an alcohol problem. It pisses me off when the old timers shut someone down for talking about anything but alcohol, I’ve walked out of meetings for how they were treating others.

I have my own issues with AA, but it’s my only option. I go for the fellowship, not their program and that’s ok. Anyone who says otherwise needs to reread the preamble and how it works. You don’t need to have a sponsor, you don’t need to work the steps, the only requirement is a desire to stop

I am in the right room. They give me the support I need and allow me get what I need of my chest. They don't throw the f***ing book at me when I ask for help. They give me their opinion and advise that helped them. I can recitite that book word for word which doesn't mean anything to me..I am an addict so if you can't relate to addition then don't comment. Thank you

Ok u do it your way.. Im sober btw 03/25/08..the big book has kept billions sober but have it your way

Finally someone gets it. What the F*** is wrong with these one sided alcoholics and FELEING THAT a book that was written over 80 years ago has all the answers. Things have changed dramatically and addiction is more powerful than alcohol. Skot thanks for understanding

Congratulations keep throwing that in people's face.

No i said that cause u said i wasnt an addict..i say that to show it works..keep coming.resentments are our number one offender:pray::pray:

I see AA as cult that if your not an alcoholic they can give to craps about whatever your dealing with..it's 2022 and addiction is taking the world by storm..look in the news and read what's going on. You don't hear about people dying of alcoholism but more of people killing their self over addiction because they don't have anyone or where to go who understands them..

Ahhhh, just don’t pick up. Period!

Truth!

Tommy, my experience with Alcohol has gotten me in trouble. I ended up getting into meth which ultimately took me down. I tried NA for awhile. I ended up going to AA. I also, like life ring, recovery dharma and refuge recovery. What has helped me stay sober is the 12 steps. I know you don’t want to hear this but for me it’s true. I also, read spiritual books and em learning more about how my brain works injunction with my body. So my thoughts are connected to how my body feels and is reacting…
Are you seeking a spiritual lifestyle? I find it very healing to pray and meditate. Centering one’s self consciously is a good way to calm the nerves. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Thank you and yes I do pray. I have always prayed but lately have been getting discouraged as life continues to kick my a** harder these days. I am trying to work a program but am under a lot of stress finding time for me. Either work or being a full time father with no support has taken my time up. When I do find a little time all I want to do I sleep or relax. I know I can't and have to keep pressing on forward but I'm just so exhausted from it all. I literally want to crawl up in a ball at times and give up. But that's not an option for me and never has so I just keep pressing forward..thank you for taking time out and not hitting with a line out of the big book everyone in AA uses. I do go to AA zoom meetings twice a week only because the group I go to accepts me and allows me to be open about my drug use. They also make me feel very comfortable by saying they too had trouble with addiction but for them it was more alcohol. Alcohol has never really been an issue for me I don't like it and would rather take a pill or something to feel that way instead of drinking. I don't like smelling like booze nor do I like how alcohol makes a person change into someone they usually are not..the problem is alcohol is so socially acceptable that many people see addicts as the worst people and like the crack head who steals from their neighbors and family.. growing up in a family who drinks I always saw it as a something I hated and didn't want to be so I drug more instead. I am practicing sobriety as we speak but because of all the drug use it has paid a toll on my mental state of mind. Causing depression, anxiety and at times the feeling as if I'll never get out of away from it..I know that is only a lie from the devil to keep me under his clutches. I just wish I had a support group that I could go to that I can actually rely on when needed. Like family and friends. It's just me and that is why I struggle. I don't have anyone else besides strangers on an app or a zoom meeting 100s of miles away...

Don't drink and drug and go to meetings. I don't like going to meetings but I go to save my life. Your worth it!!!

I get the tired part as I’m beat down today myself. Was up late last night with a sponsee helping him with his 8th step. Then I have two meetings tonight 5:30 and 8:30. I’ll get some me time in two weeks… lol :joy: have to schedule in those days… dr. Joe Dispenza has a series called Rewired. This 13 episode series has changed my life. I definitely recommend it. You can see it on Gaia tv or Prime…
