I just wish I could sleep

I know that it’ll be easier once the alcohol has run its course and is finally out of my system, but these first few days have been rough on my sleep. I’m lucky that things are slow at work and that my employer is pretty flexible; otherwise I’m in serious trouble.

When you drink before bed, your brain is busy creating chemicals to counteract the soporific effects of the alcohol. It does that as you sleep, which is why you wake up in the middle of the night feeling restless. So Alcohol doesn’t help you sleep.

I’m giving up marijuana, and one of the major withdrawal symptoms is insomnia. I sleep really well once I get to sleep, but it takes hours every night to get there. I’m exhausted, but I know it’ll be worth it.

Misery loves company, as they say, so know you’re not the only one yawning your way through your workday.

Thanks, Chris. I think that’s the toughest part of insomnia, that feeling that you’re the only one in the universe that is still awake.
