I keep having dreams of my friends that are still using.
-In the dream I’m trying to save them… like begging them to stop and seek help… I tell them that I changed my lifestyle and they should too before they die.-
It’s beginning to make me feel uncomfortable considering I can’t contact them to make sure that they are okay. This is my mentality “my sobriety depends on me. The people I allow into my life I know have a strong impact on me. Therefore I need to be selfish”. Does this make me a bad person, seeking help and never looking back? Does it mean that everyone before this moment ment nothing to me. Ugh it’s 5:44 am I should just get back to sleep.
Yeah thats when I usually have my "moments". 5 in the AM. I live in Vegas and when I got sober and started to think about which of the people that I hang with don't drink??? I couldn't think of 1 person. I didn't cut ties with anyone, I just stopped hanging out. Joined a couple outdoor groups and my main goal is to try and find some sober people in this town to hang with.
there is a youtube therapist named Alan Roberge who says some really interesting things about the mind associating people with concepts. i think you might like some of his videos. if you’re interested, feel free to message. happy to send you some links. there’s another guy named Alan Carr who talks about a similar thing in his books. in my humble opinion, you seem like you are on a great path. don’t be worried. nothing lasts forever, especially bad dreams!
I stopped hanging out with friends that I knew were going to sabotage me. I do go to functions were alcohol will be served but only if I know people who will hold me accountable if I try to drink. My whole crew drinks so it’s hard. People everywhere ask me why and how I quit. It seems like a lot of people I know are sober curious and I give them hope.
People can’t change until they’re ready. I think you were right to prioritize your own sobriety. If you stuck around you’d jeopardize your progress and they’d resent you for trying to ruin their good time. If you’re feeling guilt maybe post resources in places they might see them so they can get help if or when they decide they want it.
It most certainly does not make you a bad person, it makes you a smart person. When in early recovery it is of the utmost importance that you concentrate and worry about you and you alone. If these friends are actually true friends and not just your using buddies then they should completely understand that you’re trying to get healthier and free of your addiction which can’t happen if you surround yourself with the problem. In a perfect world they would see what you’re doing and decide for themselves that they want that too in which case you all could help each other. Otherwise they will only highly likely drag you right back towards rock bottom. You’re already climbing your way up so don’t let that happen. If you need to talk with them about it just make it clear that it’s not an option for you to be around them but that you love them and wish they would join you to work on sobriety.
If you reach out to them be careful not to get sucked in. That said, you never know who you might be the catalyst to their sobriety. They may be afraid and need the push. Ask someone you trust for their advice and go from there.
^^YOU NEED TO DO YOU! A lot of horsepower here and ALL right on^^!O2-28-2OO2
You hold your salf accountable.don’t expect someone else to do it for you.they will fail some day.stay a way from them for same time like a year.
