I know that my emotional dysfunction started as a young

I know that my emotional dysfunction started as a young child. I probably am naturally a sensitive person. However when you are on a daily basis given traumatic and dramatic events as a child I truly believe the programming is very hard to on wire from those early years. What are you guys think?

Becoming sober is just as you said... You're rewiring your brain and reprogramming it to be sober and be happy without alcohol.

It's not easy but I've found that therapy and processing those traumatic events helps a lot.

True statements. Trenching in new pathways of thinking that is healthy is supportive of a healthy lifestyle without chemicals. Using those new pathways daily can lead to a happy fulfilling life!

If anyone has the financial ability or the insurance to cover it, I’ve heard amazing things about EMDR for releasing trauma.

How long sober? That’s the first thing. I found a coach who helped me with narcissistic abuse. But sober first.

It’s very very hard to unwire. But it’s very difficult to heal from that when youre not sober, the path to healing is through sobriety

The recordings on the app are phenomenal!!!! They will surely help you understand our sickness. It’s amazing how listening to these recordings have changed my mindset and help me understand a little bit more about myself and this nasty disease!
Love you girl! :revolving_hearts::revolving_hearts::revolving_hearts:

Trauma is trauma therapy works for me

Sometimes we may need more help.when we get older we may need more help from a doctor.with problems as a child.

Childhood trauma definitely sticks w you for sure. Same patterns, just more 'real" as an adult. I would have perfectly translated your Jersey, no worries! (About 25 years for me, too. I call myself a Florida boy now!)

Saaame here girl! I’m soooo sensitive from my childhood and finally learned the alcohol makes it much worse. Therapy, therapy, therapy for all the trauma and self-help books/groups.

Same here, I'm just starting to let Go..

I just celebrated my 64th birthday on May 2nd. I at one time had 13 years sober but the truth is that I wasn't sober because I cheated on my now ex wife the entire time. I was the poster boy for how NOT to treat a woman, much less your wife! I could never be like that again if I tried! Now I am 4 years clean and sober. The promises tell me that I would be amazed before I am half way through. I am not even a tenth of the way through and I am overjoyed , happy and extremely blessed!

This was an interesting post. I know it’s 7 months old but it showed up on my feed. Emotional development for a child is most crucial between ages 4-5. I’ve read much about this over the years. If needs aren’t met at that age then the child will grow to have abandonment/ attachment issues into adulthood. Traumatic situations I’m sure have an even worse impact at that age. I don’t think you can “unwire” this part of your thought process. However, I think it can be managed by self awareness.

Old programming takes time to rewire. It can be done with work and persistence. Keep moving forward!
