I know this is crazy, but I never really tried

I know this is crazy, but I never really tried to quit drinking so I had surgery and I figured I would do the no drink November. And I’m nervous. Does anybody have any tips ?and I’m only saying November for now because I dont want to have to feel on like November 5, so if I at least say 30 days I feel I could do 30 days we will see and then maybe I’ll do more but I’m just doing the 30 for now. I see it for my mind it’s easier.

Take it one minute/ hour/day at a time, whatever you feel is attainable. I personally have found that having some sort of juice or soda that I like around that I can drink helps to curb cravings. Since locally I can often find alcohol in grocery stores, I will buy myself a soda or juice if cravings are bad while shopping to avoid temptation. I know substitution isn't always good, but if it keeps you sober another day, it's worth it.

Hi Karen. The best way to attack problem drinking or drug use is one day at a time. I've been in recovery for nearly 5 years. Drank for 25 years. I crossed over from hard partying binge drinker to alcoholic 6 years after I started drinking.

Why are you nervous?

Listen or read the big book from AA the story is awesome

@karen412352 I'm confused. Either you're poor at sentence structure or you're heavily medicated.

You say that you tried to quit drinking so you had surgery. I'm going to guess that you had surgery in October and here we are on November 1st you're going to do "no drink November".
Why are you nervous?
You're looking for tips on what? Being dry or getting sober? There's a huge difference between the two.

What's happening on November 5th? The end of the world? Your birthday?

Don't set your expectations so high. If you don't make 30 days of no drinking then you just let yourself down.

Set your expectations for one day at a time or even 30 seconds at a time. At least for every 30 seconds you make it they will add up to one day at a time.
