I lost one of my best buddies at the end

I lost one of my best buddies (like a father figure) at the end of March and I have been thinking about getting some vodka Smirnoff blueberry and downing a bottle since his service. I am just over a year clean but dang it this is hard. Anyone out there have any ways to deal with losing someone that meant so much to you and continuing to remain sober?

Hi Ronnie, I'm sorry you're going through that right now! When I lost a good friend years ago I made a tribute video to her so that I could remember the good times we had and I could watch it whenever I wanted to think of her. Hope that helps, hang in there!

That loss is tough no doubt. And it sucks you are having to deal with it. But how would he feel if you threw away your sobriety? Talk it out with your sponsor, a friend, counselor. Unfortunately there is no good way to deal with grief. On sobriety we learn how to function with the emotions and feelings we numbed for so long. I feel for you man. Hang in there.

Ronnie, hang in there buddy! My condolences to you for your loss. Play the tape out, if you drink what will the next day, week, month look like? What will be the consequences?
Keep your head up. Death is tough. Pray and meditation helps me. I like to pray to my deceased loved ones. Gives me a sense of deep connection to next life we get after we pass.

Grief is terrible! It led me in to a treatment center though. Lost my mom,dad,father-in-law and dog in a two year period. Between therapy and sobriety I feel like I’m turning the corner, stay strong it will get better!!

My condolences for your loss. Like others, I’ve also seen my share and would never minimize that, but wanted to comment on the drinking thing. In an interesting contrast to what you’re describing, I got some great news a few days ago and it was SO hard to beat back the urge to “throw down.” I ended up settling for an NA shot and NA beer. Simply put, that ethanol pull just seems to go hand in hand with emotional swings, but at the end of the day it doesn’t help anything.

I have gone through horrible loss. Have you ever tried journaling. Just writing what’s on your mind, making lists, or using journal prompts can be a very helpful outlet.

Sorry for your loss! My sponsor passed away I am grateful for the time I had with him. We were blessed!
