I’m 45 days sober today! I have been asked to go to a 60th birthday dinner with some friends from work. My worry hasn’t been that I will be tempted to drink, but their reaction to me when I say “no thank you” to a glass of wine or cocktail. I am powerless over their response…and I’m ok with that!
Who gives a sht what their reaction to you not wanting a cocktail? It's their problem that they need alcohol to feel validate, it's not your problem. Make your decision to not drink (because it's what's best for you) and just keep rollin' forward.
Their reaction is their own. As long as your own yard is clean, let them deal with theirs. True friends will be supporting.
You are enough without alcohol. If they don't realize that it's on them not you
TBH you are prolly overthinking the whole thing - order a ginger ale and I guarantee after 30 seconds nobody cares or says a thing about it - and as they kept saying in rehab, its none of your business what anybody says or thinks of you
And BTW congrats on 45 days - I’m almost there
Yup, congratulations on those hard earned sober days. You’ll figure this all out eventually as long as you keep that sobriety first in everything you do in this new life you’re living. Easy does it as they say.
Amen, we’ll said!!
Taylor had the correct answer. It is their weakness that is pressuring you.
Man, don't let that be your worry. Most people honestly never say anything. Just say no thanks and you'd be surprised how casually people go on about their way. Alcohol ain't cheap and people don't mind not having to buy an extra drink for someone! Lol I used to just tell people I had to drive or had stuff to do later. These days I just say "I don't drink" and no one had anything else to say. Live your life and be unapologetic to anyone who wouldn't respect you not wanting to drink!
Or don’t go.sobriety means more then a party.go to a meeting be-for you go.
