I’m feeling a little down this thanksgiving. I miss my son whose not living with me currently. I feel alone and usually I don’t feel this way, I think it’s because it’s a holiday. I don’t have any family just my son. Does anyone have any advice on ways I can distract myself or occupy my time today?

She asked for advice to occupy her time.

Rosey, maybe help out at a shelter or see if you have any AA meetings you can hit. Here in Cleveland we have a particular place that has meetings all day on holidays, maybe you have something like that? If not, find a meeting and go and network with people there. You're not alone, alot of us have this feeling that is amplified on holidays.

Times like this are the reason we get plugged into a recovery program and have fellowship to fall back on. Having a strong foundation for support is what recovery is all about.

Most sober clubs are having dinners maybe go to one of them.. help at a shelter like Taylor said, (good advice btw Taylor). Bake a pie for yourself, I am a huge apple fan myself. The biggest thing is just don’t pick up. Holidays were always a trigger for me, the first year was tough, after that it got easier.

Get to a meeting. Also, you can Contact your local A.A. club. They almost all have dinners today. If not contact your local senior center or outreach organization. Being of service is always good medicine for loneliness or whatever is bothering me.
