I’m getting bored of sobriety

It’s not necessarily that I’m bored of being sober and want to drink. I’m just not as excited about it as I was in the beginning. I’m almost 16 months. Meetings just don’t sound fun, I don’t have a sponsor, I feel almost like a dry drunk.

Sorry, but I have to agree with you. Does sound like a dry drunk. Gotta put in the effort to be able to grow in sobriety. Doesn’t get handed to you out of nowhere. Gotta earn happy. Sounds like you enjoy the misery. Recovery is about change. And not just a few things. Everything. Hope you can try and move on and find things to fill that void.

Find some hobbies that stretch into your discomfort zone. For me there are times when my recovery becomes my hobby, so I’ve felt this. I need to remember that my sobriety is what makes it possible to do the exciting things. If I drink, there will be no activities. My addiction doesn’t like to share it’s time.

Edit- what I’m saying is that meetings and finding a sponsor don’t have to be fun. They are something we gotta do to get to the fun. Although I have a lot of fun at meetings.

Congratulations on the 16 months. Get to meetings and get a sponsor. Working the steps and being of service is the key.

Sobriety is hard, addiction is harder, pick your hard. Weigh the pros n cons, hang in there.

Have you tried any of the alternative (not na/aa) sobriety programs? SMART, Women for Sobriety, Lifering, Recovery Dharma or Rescue Recovery are great if you (like me) find AA/NA not enjoyable and don’t align with your philosophy.
