I’m getting ready to start my journey to sobriety

I’m getting ready to start my journey to sobriety. Starting drinking wine heavily nightly (1-2 bottles!)since divorce in 2016. I’ve tried cutting back to control it but once I start I can’t stop. I’m scared and started noticing skin changes which I’m sure are related to alcohol abuse.
I drink out of boredom, always have drank to have fun, grew up with drinkers in family. It numbs the pain I have from all the stress, loneliness, anxiety I have and I use it to cope. It’s become a habit. Started at 16. I want to quit.
I already run and work out regularly.

I need suggestions on things to do. I get bored very easily and can’t sit still for a moment. I love cooking but of course while sipping wine.
I know the weekends will be hard. I’m a loner and don’t have many friends. I need a new normal.

I’m not sure I have the strength to do it so I’m hoping this platform will help to get support suggestions and feeling like I’m not alone.

A good support/fellowship is key. Celebrate recovery is a great program.

Wow, scary familiar. Almost exactly what I went through. For me, the best thing was writing. Anything. Everything. Gwt it out of your head and onto a page. Doesn't even have to be legible when you're done!!! Feelings, dreams, anxieties, plans, self-analysis, all of it!!! Attack the paper, not yourself. Let that boredom or "idle hands" feeling flow that way, which could lead to thoughts of something else to do!!

You sound like many of us, you aren’t alone. A group of some sort makes a big difference. You don’t have to work their ‘program’ If it’s not for you. Don’t be scared off by some well meaning but overzealous people. The fellowship and sharing is what’s most important IMO. Lots of good Zoom meetings too these days. You know what you need to do, you logged in here and posted it. It’s a step. Good luck, you can do it.

Congrats and good luck! If you used to play an instrument, try getting back in to it? Writing/journaling really does help! And talking to others on the same trip…there’s a million of us! Best of luck!
