I’m going out tonight with a guy I’ve been seeing. We dated when we were 16 and now we are 28 and recently got back in touch. We had a great date a few weeks ago where I told him I don’t drink and we just both had Red Bull’s all night. We saw each other again and it was great and we kissed goodbye. Tonight he invited me out with him and his coworkers. Since the last time I saw him I have drank but now I’m back on the wagon. I really like him and feel as though being invited out with his friend is a sign things are going in the right direction. I wish I could drink tonight to calm my nerves as I’m also bipolar and suffer from severe anxiety but I’m not going to. I want this to work out and for him to see the best of me. I drank in my last relationship that lasted 4-5 years that recently ended in July and I want this to be a fresh start! Words of encouragement and personal stories would be greatly appreciated! Here’s to a great night sober!
I don’t recommend a new relationship while trying to get sober.
Just be yourself. Ask G0d for directions and guidance. If it’s meant to be it’ll be.
Tak your time and dont rush anything. Dating in early sobriety is a bit tricky as you are relearning who you are. Sounds like he is supportive which is awesome. You can make it through the night just be careful.
Embrace the positive energy being together. Be aware of anxiety and cravings. Stay in the moment of control. I look at alcoholism as the character Venom from the comic book/movie. I got a venom tattoo because it goes with you everywhere.
The date didn’t happen cause he had to sing the national anthem on 9/11 for his town. He’s basically a huge star in his city and community . I want to thank you for all the support and love.
