I’m going through the big book and steps with my sponsor. And I do believe in god. But I’m having a hard time figuring out what my idea of god is……. I try to ask for his/her guidance but usually what I hear is my own voice in my head…. Does this mean my conscience is my higher power?

Good job getting a sponsor, reading the BB, and working the steps. That’s the way I got sober and stay sober. As for your higher power question, I got to the point where I just gave up trying to define, explain, comprehend this higher power. Ultimately I knew there was/is a part of me that is very sick and out of control. I often refer to this as my subconscious or default mode. It’s my ego. It always wants more. It’s never satisfied. It seeks pleasure, and avoids pain at all costs. At some point in life I got stuck in this mode, and it completely controlled me. As you are referring to, somewhere along the line I felt as if I do have access to a HP thru a higher conscious that I was born with. I have found that the conduit to this HP and my higher conscious is the 12 steps, and working a daily program of recovery. So bottom line is… I don’t know sh!t 
Does anybody really know?? I stopped trying to overthink it and just accept that I’ll never know and I don’t need to know. I just need to trust the process and do my best

I absolutely love your advice. My higher power for awhile was my cat because I struggle with god after my mom died.
Generally speaking, a "Higher Power" should be something loving, caring and greater than oneself. Suggestions: the group,or the program, or spiritual principles
You can be your own higher power. You, on your best day. A day when you do all the right stuff, even when things were shïtty, holding it together, not being mean, apologizing immediately for any missteps.
Keep it practical. If your higher power is super natural, you will inevitably develop a resentment. Keep the accountability on yourself, for the bad but also the good.
No, higher power refers only to Jesus. According to the only nonfiction book ever created by god and Jesus themselves they are all knowing and us humans have no idea what’s going on without our unwavering belief in god and Jesus. Without them we might as well not exist.
Are you saying Jesus and Christianity are super natural? Ummm there is literally a book written by Jesus himself that’s proof of his existence and his rule over the universe that consists only of the flat earth and its 6k years of existence. God says to use the Bible. We all know the Christian god is all knowing and loves everyone completely equally except for most people and that’s good enough for me.
Look, I don't wanna argue with you. But you should never ever tell someone that the only way they can get/stay sober is through accepting the religion you have chosen. I get it, you found a song you really like, and you wanna share it. And it's working for you, cool.

In chapter 4 we the agnostic, it sates you can call him what you desire. Creator of the universe, god, all that matters is that you come to believe in something greater than you, if you can do that. Doesn’t matter what your higher power is. Until you can fully decide what it may be

Perhaps but for a new comer you cant tell him/her what God to believe in. Cant be a bible thumper. If you read more and comprehend the reason for that chapter is that all are welcome regardless of their god. Even if your right. Its not up to you to shove God down someone. Its because of self righteous christians that non believers chose not to believe in Christ buddy
