I’m having a hard time finding a sponsor. Like where to start. What are the criteria. How do I even muster the strength to even say hi. What am I looking for in a sponsor.

First you need to connect with others, get to know them. Say hi! Listen to their stories, experiences and how they followed a program. I can only share what I’ve done. I wanted someone who changed their lives by taking action.

I assume you are attending meetings? At the ones I would go to, they had a section after introductions where they would ask who was a sponsor looking for a sponsee and then vice versa. Maybe just keep your eye on one of those folks during meetings and listen to them. You can always break up with a sponsor for a new one. If they take it personally, then they weren't the right choice anyways.

Yea I am. And I’m listening. And they do have a section at the end for sponsorship. It’s usually someone who just became one year sober and doesn’t have a sponsee. I need more mileage in choosing a sponsor.

Sponsors are found in the rooms of alcoholics anonymous. Attend meeting, listen to shares, find one who has what you want, approach them after and ask if they would help you. Best thing I ever did. Good luck
