I’m new here, also new to this journey. Any tips or support for a newbie would be greatly appreciated. I need all the help I can get doing this.
Go to an AA meeting. You don’t have to talk just sit and listen. Also feel free to express your daily feelings here. Find sober groups online and if needed get therapy
I’ve watched an AA meeting online tonight. Today is day one of my recovery and it’s scary but I know it’s time I do this. I appreciate your help!
Stay strong and stay committed…. It’s not easy but it’s worth it.
Highly recommend getting a sponsor and working the steps. Also if you can do a big book study because the big book is the recipe to happy sobriety. The words written in that book explain (confusing, that’s why it’s good to do it with a sponsor or do a big book study) how to recover
Be honest
Find a women's AA meeting and check it out. If that one sucks, find a different one. Introduce yourself. The women take care of eachother. You will have an instant sober family.

So glad you made this choice.
You're going to hear a lot of opinions on what works and what doesn't. This app is great for support but is by no means a solution. I struggled in the AA program for many years. Not because AA didn't work but because I was always trying to do things my way.
Afters years of relapsing and many treatment centers alcohol had beat me into a state of willingness. I got a sponsor, took the 12 Steps and stayed sober almost 9 years.
One day I did what I call "believing the lie." I picked up a drink believing everything would bo OK this time. It wasn't. It cost me 3 yrs of getting drunk every day.
I made it back to AA and was welcomed with open arms. I now have over 8 yrs. I'd say go to as many meetings as possible. And try different meetings remembering that people come in all different shapes and sizes.
After awhile you will find a home and distinguish the winners from the rest. Quality of life after sobriety takes time. It's all in what you put into it. It's 10 miles into the woods and 10 miles back out.
And it's worth it. Today, I have nothing to cry about. Life doesn't get perfect because we stop drinking but we get better at handling life one day at a time.
Here's an app that will help you find meetings in all of the USA on both platforms.
