I’m proud that I made it through yesterday without drinking. But I’m disappointed in the way that someone close to me wasn’t understanding or compassionate about my wanting to leave early. It’s my second holiday season after losing my dad to Covid in 2020, and I felt like crying & sleeping the whole day, even though the dinner party was fun. I don’t know if I can count on him as a part of my support system at all.
That because they don’t know how we feel inside you should be proud of your self for going out and making a effort instead of isolating your self
At first people were kind of shocked by the fact that I was setting boundaries. The boundaries I set around my recovery are non-negotiable and I will not feel guilty about them. My sponsor taught me that no is a complete answer.
Always be careful with your expectations of people (especially normies). They lead to resentment and we as alcoholics do not have the luxury of holding onto resentments. You did the right thing. Be at peace with it.
Not about him, about you. Do what’s best for you. Nothing serious but your sobriety works best. Put it first and foremost and the rest will eventually fall into line.
Can’t control other people, but you do control how you respond to them. In that sense, you put yourself and your needs out there and if they don’t like it, it’s their problem now.
Hooray for making it through the day!
Each moment counts
Awesome on the day
You should be proud. I lost both my parents 15yrs ago. You never forget but it gets easier believe me. As for your friend he might have thought he was helping, simply because he may not understand. You might want to talk to him. In the end you have to take care of yourself and do what's best for you. I know you can do this. Best of luck, my prayers are with you.
I'm proud of you too my friend!! Guard your sobriety however you need to! Even if it means walking away from someone.
