I’m REALLY struggling today. I’m an alcoholic in recovery

I’m REALLY struggling lately. I’m an alcoholic in recovery and, knowing that, I want to get high so bad. Just once! I’m not going to, at least I hope I won’t because I know where it will lead. You know H.A.L.T? Well I’m at A, L, & T and don’t know how much longer I can keep this up. Thanks for letting me share.

You have enough time in sobriety to know the thought of "I'll use once" will never ever happen. When we put a mood or mind altering substance in our bodies, I or we cannot stop. Other lies are I can use responsibly now, make any excuse be for you to sign off on your own bullshit. Or ever thinking you have this disease at bay because you have such a great period of time sober. If you choose to use, just know your gonna be on a run for who knows how long. Did you loose everything in your life - family, friends, house, vehicle, all your possessions. If you have not you will if you decide to use. Just don't die if you relapse. I assure you you will always get same result of jail, institutions, or death. Are you sponsoring others? Are you bringing meetings into detox and jails? Are you going to a meeting everyday? Do you call your sponsor daily? Don't tell me you don't have the time because you sure found time to buy, use, do it all, then repeat in your addiction

Hey Michelle the same drink that we take today taste and IS the same drink that we took years ago that ruined our life…and it’s the same for getting high…don’t let your thoughts deceive you…remember your thought process is lying to you…

We all probably have wanted to just once, but we know what happens after that. Reach out and push through. We'll end up having to do that more than just once, and the rewards are hopefully as good as they should be.

Success comes one step past failure you are so close if it’s hard.

Stay strong. You can do it.

Hi Michelle. I know how you feel. I celebrated five years on August 7th, but still find myself romanticizing the buzz, or the remembering the relaxed person I used to be who wasn’t so anxious after a few drinks. The truth is, alcohol is everywhere, so the moment I start to feel those intrusive alcohol thoughts, I talk to someone in recovery or go to a meeting. i’m blessed to have met my best friend an AA, so keeping a sober friend close is vital. Although I know I’m not going to give in to temptation, I do whatever is necessary to guard my sobriety and keep myself safe because I know where alcohol has taken me and that black hole does not exist in my world anymore. I hope this helped. You’re more than welcome to DM me if you need a friend.
