I’m still struggling to name my higher power. Any suggestions

For me; I see a lot of underlying Buddhism in AA. “God” I believe was used loosely back in the beginning because as a whole it was what American’s related to. Most people I know speak of AA as a spiritual program not religious

GOD, I’ve heard a few acronyms group of drunks is one that makes me smile but rings true … we can not do this without each other, accountable and serving one another

Buddhism, the removal of self

Some of what you said feels like you could use to differentiate accountability for yourself and control!

Buddhism is an ideology may help to look in that direction :pray:t3::heart::wave:t3:

My sponcor said the only thing I needed to know about a higher power to get sober is….There is a higher power and it ain’t you. And let your spiritual journey begin with an open mind.

Can you perhaps substitute wisdom for god. The searching for self enlightenment might give you a place to start. Nobody should beat you up for not believing in a higher power but wisdom and self enlightenment seem to be universal. Hope that helps.

Read the chapter in the Big Book “we agnostics”
That will help.

I was told to call it GUS. Great universal spirit. This helped me for the first 14-18 months of sobriety.
I heard people use
Creative intelligence
Creator of the universe
Spirit of the universe

What helped me to start filling that God-shape hole was going to church. Just listening, reading scripture and talking with others. I can see just how joyous the people in church were. I was agnostic with a slight atheism attitude before sobriety. Today I’m a believer. I can’t tell you how many times I have received what I call “God-shots” in sobriety.

I pray for knowledge and wisdom and courage so I can be my best version to help others. I pray for my family and friends.
Meditation has helped a lot in calming me down. Staying focused on the task at hand.

I’ll pray for you to find your higher power. To give yourself to this higher power and rely on this power to guide you through your new found way of life.
Stay sober my friend just for today.
