I’m struggling tonight. I’m new to sobriety (on day 10); I’ve been in an outpatient program for almost a month but have relapsed twice right around this 10 day mark. I’m confident that I will remain sober tonight and have used ALL the tools tonight to ensure it. My struggle is my loneliness and feeling as though I’m doing this all on my own. I have my Outpatient group and have 1 AA group that I attend via zoom nightly as well as 3-4 SMART Recovery meetings a week but I’m finding it hard to make connections. My husband and friends all have issues with alcohol in varying degrees and are supportive as much as they know how to be but I don’t even know how to relate to them while I’m going through all this and they just continue to do what they’re doing. I guess I’m just looking for conversation and a distraction above the other things that I am doing...and to not feel so alone!

Hi Rachel.

Sorry you’re having a tough night. But it’s great that you’ve made the commitment to not drink tonight. Worry about tomorrow when it gets here.

Thanks! I’m pretty proud of myself, actually. There were about 20 opportunities for me to drink tonight and I was able to actually use the skills I’ve learned to maintain sobriety. I am so excited that I’m going to feel great when I wake up in the morning!

Hey Rachel! Hang in there- you’re not alone! Good job on using your tool set... have you checked out any sobriety podcasts? That can be a good distraction, and helpful as well.

That’s one of the things I did- I really like Annie Grace (author of This Naked Mind). Do you have any you’d recommend?

Two that I like are Recovery Happy Hour and Addiction Unlimited- both hosted by women with a lot of episodes to choose from.

Read Pgs 416-419, that helps me when I’m in a low place. Try to stay around sober people, and make a meeting if you can . May God be with you Rachel.

Lonley is a sucky way to go, thats part of the AA draw...some sort of social group, very helpful

Girl you’re doing awesome. I can’t seem to make it half a week.

I feel ya! I get lonely also. I got a puppy and that helps. Something that relies on my responsible behavior.
