I find that it actually is peace because for me at that moment I have not one worry in the world. I’m just use to all the drama and fast life that now this seems boring

That’s a great thing to do

If you’re bored, find something to do. Go see a comedy show. Go hang out in a cafe. Go hear a jazz band play. Or hear some awful cover band butcher your favorite songs. Or whatever it is you’re into.

You’re allowed to have fun.

Thanks for that I appreciate it .

I see you live out in Cali, and it’s still the afternoon over there. There’s time to find something fun to do tonight.

Yeah I am going to go play sober in a few hours that for the reply

Hugo,

in early sobriety, everything about our life is boring without picking up a drink or drug because that's what we're used to. In the beginning before I got sober I used to sit around wondering what would I ever do if I gave up alcohol? What is there possibly to do in life if you don't have alcohol?

I couldn't understand how normal people could go from day to day without picking up a drink. I just couldn't understand it. When I finally got sober, after a while I started to realize that life really does have a lot to offer outside of a bottle of booze.

Anytime you do something that makes you feel good, the thing that's really making you feel good are what are called reward chemicals that your body releases. If you have a piece of chocolate cake you feel much reward chemical. A piece of lettuce, not so much.
When you do drugs you get loads of reward chemicals.

As a result when you do something such as sitting at the end of a pier with your girlfriend, it just doesn't feel very exciting unless you have drugs or alcohol tied to it. At that stage of our addiction, everything is boring without a drink in our hand. Or drug which is the same thing.

But after you've been sober for a long period of time your body starts to settle down and those things that did not feel so good now start to feel pretty good.

It's 10 miles into the woods and 10 Mi back out. I'm here to tell you that the payoff is tremendous. After cleaning up the wreckage of my past I set out to earn my private pilot license. It's an amazing journey let me tell you. It takes being sober, commitment and perseverance and oh yes, $$.

When you finally pass your checkride and the FAA Examiner signs you off, I have no words to describe the feeling of accomplishment. I did this at age 53.

Yes, life has much to offer after sobriety and life is not boring.

This is my first time hearing that “boredom is peace that I’m not used to yet,” but I love it and cannot wait to share it with others. Thank you!

I forgot to tell you that you can visit a General Aviation airport and tell them you want to do a discovery flight.
It's an amazing experience from PreFlight to landing.

You won't regret it!

I had never heard that saying either! However it did trigger a comment my therapist has made before of that chaos is not only my normal but what I try to recreate when things are calm to feel comfortable. So this makes sense, thanks for sharing!
