Hey Emile, your right there is no time limit. But there are good reasons your sponsor is applying some pressure. First, it’s best to strike when the iron is hot, most people have the most motivation early in recovery. Second, most people who give up and go back out there do it at step four. It’s the first step that we have to actually put pen to paper. We are procrastinators by nature. Lastly you don’t have to get every single thing done this time. Get started. List what you can and keep moving forward. You may need to do the steps a few times in life. There will be new resentments and old ones that you recall as time goes in. Doing the steps then living the steps is a fluid process. You may have to come back to certain things a few times.
It’s your sponsors responsibility to help move you along.
Any resistance or excuse we have may be part of our disease at work to throw us off.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Thomas. This helps. I’m about halfway through. Am going to work on finishing up and moving forward. :pray:t4::call_me_hand:t4:🫶🏽

I always needed a dead line, so
I could use the last minute to do the work. Without one, I’d get nothing done.
There are issues that sponsors are not equipped to hand and should know when not to. There were
Issues I did not feel comfortable with discussing with my sponsor, trauma. I write the name of the person and leave the rest out, telling my sponsor that I am
Seeking outside help for that one. If ever met with an attitude about this, i reminded my sponsor that it the fifth step is the act of sharing out loud fourth step with a trusted person or adviser (mentor, priest, so on)
I also had to remember that I am able to go back and add to my fourth step as time reveals more to me. We also have the tenth step which allows us to make a daily inventory as people, places, things and resentments actively come up. I have found my fourth is always evolving and will never be completed-another reason why people work the step’s multiple times. I did mine by saying that for the next however many days I am setting aside “x” mamount of time to do The work. When I finish, I ask myself if I have been honest, holding back (with the above exception) nothing? If I answered “yes” then I moved on to five.
Not sure I articulated that well, but hope it helps!

Lucy, this helps immensely. I think my sponsor just wants me to finish and I’ve already discussed some of my issues regarding it. I just wanna be fearless and thorough.

The desire to be fearless and Thorough mean you’re “in this.” Which is excellent.
Though, s m I have found myself using perfectionism as an excuse not to do something-like going through a phase of having a very difficult time with my fourth because it just wasn’t good enough or whatever. Then I realized, it doesn’t have to be. I can be fearless and thorough and it not be perfect.
