I'm struggling with the untimely loss of my nephew, who was 23 years old.

He passed two days after his 23rd birthday.

My name is Emilio, and I am an alcoholic/addict.

I also have mental health issues and have been diabetic since October 1, 2010.

As the details of his overdose are slowly being revealed, naturally, there are many questions left unanswered.

My sobriety date is April 5, 2021.

Through the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous and my primary care physician, psychologist, psychiatrist, therapist, and substance-abuse counselor, I will get through this because I am building a solid foundation with God, my higher power, the creative spirit of the universe.

Fortunately I haven't lost anyone since I sobered up, but I'm impressed by how well I've seen people that are pretty solid in their recovery handle the loss of loved ones. It kinda reassures me that I'll be able to do the same

Welcome Emile Yeo, I know the pain of loss like that. I lost my older brother a little over a year ago and several friends in the rooms in my almost five years of recovery. The guilt of not being there to save my brother was very hard, but I was able to find closure after being reminded I couldn’t save someone who didn’t want to be saved. I, instead chose to strengthen my bond with my nephews and be there even more for them. I didn’t drink or use through any of it, and that was a blessing. There is support on these apps and in meetings and the fellowship. Thank you for sharing, believe it or not you helped me today. God bless :pray:t4:
