I’m trying to quit smoking cig
depending on how many years/amount of cigarettes...and a type of personality..either cutting cold turkey, or tapering with other methods are generally the two paths. I switched to vaping when I first got sober and was on a whopping 12mg mix, today I'm on 1.5mg and continuing to reduce after 5 years in this method. there's also alot to consider depending on how much time you have sober and whether or not cigs are "part of your program" currently, in terms of maintaining electrochemical balance day to day (dealing with withdrawl, anxiety, etc). best of luck and above all, ASK YOU SPONSOR!
If you are new.wait for a year.then stop.
For me, I was new to sobriety and stopped cold Turkey. I chewed tobacco for 20 years.
I was able to quit meth, alcohol and tobacco. I did pick up candy, at that time, and then had to quit that. Today I’m doing great. 22 months in.
If you really want to stop, do the steps of AA. The first 3 steps removed the urges to drink or use. Then get a support group.
Remember this is your journey, do what feels right for you…
To drink is too die
To smoke is too die
To do drugs is too die.
I quit August 26th. I don’t think about it. I suggest highly that you avoid smokers which is easy until I’m walking into a meeting.
