I am with you. Drinking is my big problem and sometimes… the person that comes out isn’t me. And that person is angry. Angry at things that have nothing to do with the present. My inner demons come out to play and I have no control. I almost ruined my relationship of 5 years.
I’m new here and looking for help as well. I’m just starting as well.
Welcome! I'm glad you're being introspective and realize the dangers. Alcohol can absolutely ruin a life and the lives of those around you. I speak from experience. Please get out while you can. Feel free to reach out whenever you need help.
It happens with us. My longest relationship was 6.5 yrs. From senior yr highschool to mid 20's. We both drank alot from the beginning and parties all the time. She would black out everytime she drank so I thought she was worse than me as far as control but I got there soon enough too. I've dated 2 good women that hardly ever drank and hid how much I did with them. They only knew when I over did it which was like once a month or so. I'd come home from work buzzed but happy and they just thought I was my normal self but occasionally I would be slurring and obviously drunk. The first girl I mentioned cheated on me multiple times I know and some I'll probably never with other guys. I've never cheated on a serious girlfriend but by drinking behind their back I was cheating. Cheating them my real sober here for you self. As much as I was happy to see them when I got home or how much I loved her I loved alcohol 1st. For the simple fact I would drink it knowing she wouldn't like it. Not sure what degree of asshole that makes me ,it's on the scale there somewhere but alcohol has always been in the equation. Have you worked the 12 steps? I didn't understand that more important than alcohol being in the equation it's me in the equation. Once I started changing me and abandoned drinking things started getting better. Sorry for the novel
I have not tried the 12 steps. I reached out to a place that I believe holds meetings, but I had to leave a message. I’m just currently trying to find all the resources and support on all platforms for when I have temptations and urges.
Thank you all for your encouraging words and support. I was curious if this app would help any, but you’ve all been help already. I appreciate the support & option to reach out. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
hi alicia, don’t beat yourself up, addiction is a disease, i did that too and am 11 days sober:+1:
i had to quit, for myself and family
Trust me it was hard at first for me. But when I was able to play the tape through and realize that at the bottom of every drink was an 8 ball of coke or some other drug I began to understand how unmanageable my life will be with just one sip. So being able to see it coming has gotten me 5 plus years.
The disease makes you make poor decisions that can really jeopardize relationships. Talking about it and being open about the struggles helps. I’ve done the same as you. The 12 steps help but best thing is to go to a meeting with like minded people struggling with the same disease
That it will I lost the love of my life on the count of alcohol
Try meetings on zoom allday everyday anywhere in the world!
I love that idea! I didn’t know that was a thing! Thank you soooo much!!!
