I messed up, found out some really bad news used it as an excuse and had 2 margaritas at dinner. Now I feel really bad. My addiction to alcohol drives me crazy. I wake up tell myself you don’t need it it’s ruining you then end up doing it anyway.
What you do next is important...
Sometimes if you do the next right thing you get a freebie. One drink in 23 days that ain't bad though
Others I was the only one who had a drink though
Great insight knowing you used it as an excuse, and awesome that you got on here and shared. Don't beat yourself up about it for sure, but also take it seriously and figure out how to cope when you get upsetting or bad news. In life, bad news, trauma, tragedy, will unfortunately happen. Its learning how to act and react to different situations that can keep us sober. Reaching out to supports BEFORE you drink, keep sharing on here, check out different types of meetings. Life can come at us really hard sometimes, develop those skills you have in you! Listen to others and reach out!
One day at a time! The world record for sobriety is 24 hours!
At least you recognized it and are talking about it!!
Keep coming back, it works if you work it!!
It happens. I have relapsed multiple times. Get back up and start over. The alternative is ultimately death. Choose life.
Great support here. I agree with it all. You’ve beat yourself up enough. Follow suit of the for mentioned and keep on.
You’re not alone! You have to come to the conclusion that you have the allergy. The obsession of the mind, and the spiritual malady. Only you can diagnose yourself. Once you see that you have these symptoms when it comes to liquor you are ready to take certain steps. Which consists of a self appraisal. A moral inventory.
The work is cleansing! We clean up our side of the street, get right with our higher power and go out in the world and practice the principles in all of our affairs, oh and most importantly we give back what was freely given to us by giving it away to a newcomer. A (recovered) Alcoholic helping another (sick) alcoholic has shown to be very effective in keeping the recovered alcoholic sober.
I pray for your healing. I pray that you find a program of action that will help you overcome this illness.
But you got on here and brought that darkness to light, so there’s not as much room for things like shame and guilt to try and hold you back. Good on you!
Like Kevin says above, monitor your self and analyze what steps are leading you to that path. Anytime I walk into a bar with friends (it’s the VFW), I walk right up to the bartender and tell him/her about my DUI and to never serve me alcohol.
But don’t just abstain; replace with something positive, like water, exercise, not placing yourself in situations around alcohol until you’re comfortable, always take a friend that knows your standards and will help you. Above all, keep on keeping on.
You can do it
Pick yourself up. Dust yourself off. It's a new day. Might I point out that drinking didn't solve anything? Next time call someone in your support group BEFORE drinking.
I forgot to ask: Do you have a support group?
Don't feel bad. We're human, that means we will naturally make mistakes along the way. We practice progress, not perfection. Be kind to yourself and keep your seat in the room with us.
That’s the true battle with alcohol. You’ve used it to soothe for so long that when adversity raises its head it’s your go-to method of handling tough situations. Recovery is about finding ways to cope with the difficult emotions without using alcohol. It takes a lot of mindfulness and acceptance that life is painful —but to face it sober is the only way of effectively processing the pain. Drinking will only magnify it in the long run. You are worth sitting through the discomfort! You are stronger than you can imagine.
You know what you need to do
No I don’t I went to a few aa meetings near me but didn’t really click with anyone.
Start again. There are rocky spots along the way sometimes. You have proven that you are capable. Get back on the horse. Good support network here!

How long are you able to go without drinking?
You pretty much covered the first three steps right there in one paragraph!! So what’s next? It’s time go get all those things that have been bothering you forever identified and out in the open where they can’t hide anymore!! Out with the bad air and in with the good!! It’s not easy but I can tell you from experience that it’s totally worth it. I truly believe you’re on your way!!!!
