Hello Sandy, lots of good people here. I'm sober 1yr +1 what's going on. You make it through work but nights and weekends not so good. It sounds familiar. Any reason for that. I'm here willing to chat anytime about sobriety and how I am doing it. Best of luck
How can we help?
We are here for you if you need anything
Hey Sandy it’s a good step. Admitting you need help. That acceptance and the willingness is the beginning. My thoughts are to find another woman or man, a friend who has some sobriety who understands the challenges in early sobriety, so that when you’re tempted to drink you can reach out first. Meetings early on sobriety also help so much (to be around other sober people) and a sponsor. You are not alone. It’s done by everybody one day at a time.
keep up the good work.
Sandy, please talk to us, and tell us how we can help you. Many ppl are hear to just listen, and not judge you.❤️🩹💙
I can’t seem to get it out of control I work five days a week and when I get home all I want to do is drink I know it’s out of control I know I’m out of control but I can’t seem to control it.
Honestly just take one hour at a time. Find something you enjoy like reading or gardening or whatever that might be. Take a walk. Go shopping. Keep your mind busy. One hour at a time will turn into one day at a time and then one week etc.
Lots of help here. I'm new too
It’s okay if you need to start again. I must have tried quitting 10-12 times before I made it past 6 mos. Please don’t take it too hard -just keep trying.
You have made the first step. I am similar. I work and my trigger is quitting time. Today, just today make the decision to not drink/use. One of my tools that helps me is when I get home from work, I open a cold sparkling water, pour it in a glass and through it back. It really helps to alleviate my cravings. Find your tools, learn your triggers, get involved with sober people and reach out when you need help. Step one is done. You have admitted you need help.
Good Morning Sandy,
Please stop thinking of addiction as something you can control. It’s more like diabetes or cancer. Something you can treat.
No matter how hard you try you can’t make a tumor disappear. But like with other diseases, there are treatments that are very affective. You’ve asked for help. Now it’s time to accept it. Go to a meeting. Listen. Get some women’s phone numbers. AA, SMART, Dharma, Refuge, The Luckiest Club, and so many more options to help you transition into recovery.
You can google meetings. AA, SMART recovery, Recovery Dharma, whatever. Talking to others going through the same thing can really help, whether online or in person.
I went to rehab for 30 days, and that worked for me. It was really about talking to people who could understand, and talking to professionals that could teach me about what I was going through. It also put me out of reach of any drinks or drugs.
Do you live alone, or with others? I live alone, so I had no one to hide my drinking from, so that made it a little harder to start not drinking. It also now makes it easier to not have any drinks in the house, since there's no one else bringing anything into the house.
Have you considered group therapy with a focus on substance abuse?
When it comes down to it, it's your sobriety. You will have to decide how that starts, and how you will maintain it. You've made the first step in asking for help, but you will be responsible for what the next step is, and every step after that. We're here to offer support and advice, but you have to put in the work.
