I need to get some ideas from recovering addicts of how to come to grips with self control.. willingness to surrender completely..Taking the first step
I repeatedly tell myself nope. I will not drink, i will not smoke, just for today. If its bad enough, take it one minute at a time. Find things that will separate you from the urge in that moment.
Change the crowd you hang with. You will not get positive reinforcement from people not in the program. Once you have figured out triggers for yourself don’t go to that situation alone or without a way out. Triggers come and go it’s all a mind over matter. This might sound over welming but the only thing you got to change is everything. One day at a time sometimes one second at a time. Do things you enjoy that keeps your mind off using. We can do this your never alone. Good luck my friend
Get to some meetings, there is a host of sobriety programs that can help. Change the places you go, the people you associate with, and the things you do.
I agree with others. Changing your life is important, friends, situations, etc…. Sometimes even just a walk around the block will do it. You wouldn’t think so but by the time your halfway done I bet your mind is on something else. I walked obsessively at first and lot 40 pounds too, bonus. Sober and at my high school weight at 50.
