I need to vent

I am seeing my family for Thanksgiving and am super nervous. My ex and I broke up in July and we were engaged and thanks to my drinking I messed it up. Any advice how to stay sober for the holidays? It's my first holiday season alone and sober and even though I have 90 days I just feel sad.

I feel for you, dude. I don’t have advice because I am struggling in the same way. All I can say is you’re not alone and I’ll be watching this feed and learning along with you. Hang in there, I think we can do it.

Definitely get a good sober support system . People you can reach out to and hold you accountable

Maybe leaving early. Or giving yourself something special you don’t usually drink like maybe nice sparkling water… or a fancy juice. Or heck a slice of cake.. (Thats my go to in a pinch :joy:) something that you have for yourself incase you get an urge.

Always allowing yourself grace.. And listening to your mind and body and knowing when to reel it in and knowing when to leave a situation. But most importantly trying to be present in the moment and finding joy in your relationships and memories you get to create hopefully .

All that said I hope you have a great holiday

There’s marathon meetings that go on 24 hours a day during holidays. I’d suggest to hit a meeting a day to balance out family pressures.

We are all here for you. Get on here and read all the positive things happening in people's lives when they keep showing up one day at a time. Do it for yourself. No one else. You're worth it.

Go to meetings as much as you can this week and thanksgiving morning. And just know
You’re not alone. Also, I set timers with my family. I have a family full of alcoholics and none of them know I am in AA. But I don’t think I need to explain myself to anyone. Typically I can only be with them for 2 hours then I leave. Hope you have a sober thanksgiving… you got this

Sounds awesome John where at?

If you feel like you will drink then don’t go as hard as that seems. You’re sobriety should come first and real family will understand

Haven't seen my family in 3 years so I feel obligated

I agree with Luis, don’t put yourself situation that don’t uplift you.
