Now I have my my next “obstacle”. Without turning to alcohol, socializing has been throughly uncomfortable. I feel lonely and like I want to be alone at the same time. Conundrum!!
Could be a form of depression. I’ve gone through similar stuff. The right AA group is a great place to start. I’ve met several people already just by going for the 7 days I’ve been sober.
I’m nervous to go to AA. Sometimes everyone being so welcoming makes me feel uncomfortable. Social anxiety is a thing for me too.. I’m a mess
I was shy my first few meetings. Drinking isolated me, and I liked that part of it for quite awhile. Getting out and interacting was different at first! Unfortunately that’s not healthy. Maybe take a friend or family member along with you.
Addiction wants you isolated. If you are alone it is too easy to slip if no one is watching. That is why meetings and sponsors are so important. We have to be accountable. Look at it like this, if you play a video game, if there is no consequence you might use a cheat code. You may regret it later because you don’t get the full experience of the game. Alcohol is our cheat code.
Most of my friends drink pretty often so… not that lol. I’m just gonna have to suck it up and go for it.
That’s a really interesting perspective and totally resonates. Thank you
Ashli! I totally agree and understand how you feel! I too get that way sometimes. It’s a weird cycle. Learning to just sit with it, or get out of my comfort zone and attend a meeting. Or I’ll go on hike.
This app has helped me by helping others! How many days do you have in sobriety? What are you doing to cope with the anxiety and depression?
Having the exact same experience… Considering going to AA to find more sober friends, since all of my friends are heavy drinkers.
I feel this. Not sure how to get out there sober. Anxiety overload
If you don't have a sponsor, I would think about getting one. It's helpful to have someone to help you navigate socializing.
