Are you working a program? Do you have a sponsor?
Are you angry with someone, or something? Do you have any fear either attached to those resentments or just fear on its own?
I can say for me my drinking and using was a direct result of the allergy, mental obsession, spiritually malady, and all of my resentments, fears, and conduct I have had over the years. I held on to them as I’ve learned recently I have attachment issues as well. Today I work the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. I use the steps as a tool/guide to keep me sober and useful to others. I also, like to church and Jesus for guidance. God has helped me get through some of the most painful times in sobriety. I rely on God’s will for me through prayer and meditation.
Thank you for sharing your experience. You’ve helped me more then you realize. Have a blessed day filled with love and peace within. Go easy on yourself. Lift your head up, Smile and tell yourself positive affirmations. Change your thoughts. Change your life.

Hey all, new here. Having a brutal honesty with yourself and telling others about your demons is an awesome step forward. I know you feel like beating yourself up for relapsing, just make sure you’re also treating yourself with compassion. Progress, not perfection. You’re here today, I’m here today, we’re all here for the same reason. Maybe you’ve taken the first step a thousand times before, the point is, you continue to do it. Sending virtual hugs to all who need them!

Relapse is all to real and we all have another relapse in us. How many recoveries do we have left is something to ask yourself. Pick yourself up and continue the journey. Don’t let it hold you down from what you’ve accomplished. You aren’t worthless. Get back on track and keep going.

All you can do is try again, and review your thoughts and activities that led up to the relapse, and avoid these triggers. Good luck!

One day at a time…

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. And boy do you ever have that. Because you come back. And you will get there.

I see you’ve read the big book. I can’t imagine reading it for the first time without a sponsor. We all think we can, need even, to do this ourselves. But surprise! Most of us can’t. That’s why programs like AA or smart or refuge, TLC, dharma, etc work. They are all different, but they all have a community, and they all have a common goal.

There’s some great stuff in this thread. It all comes down to trying something different. If what you’re trying isn’t working, trying the same thing, but “harder” isn’t going to work either. I did everything my way from 15-46. The result was a huge mess. I trashed my way and tried it another way, with another, much better result.

Relapse isn’t a part of recovery it’s a lack of recovery, half measures available is nothing, without one there is none, surrendering to win

Anastassia,

Do you know why I USED TO relapse?
It's called " Believing the LIE."
That this time everything will be OK. But it never is, is it?

Have you ever heard the saying, "If you keep on doing what you've always done, you'll keep on getting what you've always gotten?"

What did you differently that you didn't do the last time? There's a lot of relapsing going on because people aren't really doing anything different. And they too are believing the big lie.

The good news is that there is a solution and you never have to drink again!

I gotta strongly disagree that relapse isn't part of recovery. And also with the lack of recovery part.

Relapse is a lack of recovery, you will get out of it what you put into it, it’s a spiritual journey honesty open minded and willingness

So many great replies here. Three things that got me back into the program after I Relapsed. One I got a sponsor, find one you can relate to you and make you accountable. Two, meetings - suit up and show up - my sponsor made me do 90 meetings in 90 days, ever since that I still make the time to hit 4-5 meetings - to me it is a reality check almost. I don’t think I ever walked out of a meeting and not gotten something from it. Finally three, one day at a time. This is my third time and I’m actually working the program - close to 6 months and I can see a lot of change (good change) in my life. You can do it!

Where you with old friends?
