I think I’ve always known that alcohol was bad for me , from the first time I was ever drunk at like age 12 I knew it .
But as I got older I still drank more everywhere I went people wanted me to drink , at parties, at dinners , at concerts , when camping or boating or whatever it was I was doing people expected me to drink and it became a habit even though a part of me always felt disgusted with myself for engaging in it especially over and over .
As I got older it became so much apart of my life that I didn’t think I could have fun or hang out with friends or do most things without drinking or at least drinking as a reward for an activity or an accomplishment or the end of the day or the end of the week , but always something led to drinking and drinking led to more drinking, I watched it ruin relationships with good women who loved me I watched it steel my time , my joy , my spirit , I became a slave to alcohol.
I thought I was in control because I never drank at work I never got a dui I always got up and went to work no matter what but the truth is I was barely alive I was coping with anxiety and stress and depression that I somehow thought I had already and alcohol was the relief but I was wrong , alcohol was more the cause then anything else it was the thief of time , joy , light , presence , love , god it was killing me slowly and I was paying a very high price for this terrible agonizing slow path to the grave . Today I am sober , I am happy , I love my friends, I feel awake and alive I am grateful for everything, god is in my life in so many ways . I am awake I am actually experiencing my life I am no longer numb . Say no to alcohol it only steels your life .
