I understand now why it’s better to surround yourself with people in recovery. I went out tonight and found myself surrounded by a lot of heavy drinkers. It wasn’t planned that way it just kind of happen. I didn’t drink but by the time I left my car ride home I basically convinced myself I don’t need recovery at all. It’s wild how this morning I was all good with everything and now I was convincing myself that tonight is how I want to live. It’s just wild. I don’t really know where I stand with it anymore. Like maybe I’m fine like maybe I’m not that bad. Idk.
I'll be your devils advocate. Do what ever you think you can handle. When you say heavy drinkers, I think of my old days. I didn't care what you said, I would keep the pressure on to drink. (JUST TO DRINK), You gotta clarify sometimes for people. I've been there didn't work for me lol. Glad you held your own.
I mean maybe not that bad. Do your pros of drinking and cons, share them, ask for a vote.
I told them I didn’t drink and they were fine with it in the beginning. They bought me some sodas and we played cards. When I left they were all hammered. I think I just wanted to fit in with that group and I think I stayed so long because I was trying to justify having a drink with them. I knew if I drank they would of accepted me more into the group. I thought I was missing out but it’s weird because I watched the levels of drunk for them set in. Waking up this morning I’m glad I didn’t drink but I think there’s a part of me that’s sad that I can’t drink or that I know that I choose not too even when I want to
We always try to convince ourselves that it was not too bad.
The inner con will find a way to make using legitimate. Careful with your surroundings. Triggers are seconds away. Great job holding strong! Peace
I didn’t tempt fate. I didn’t go into all the details but it wasn’t a planned thing. I dealt with it. Very well.
I don’t care what you call it. I’m still clean and sober.
There is nothing that can happen during the day that alcohol won't make worse. Forget about the fun and think about the danger.
Amanda, the big book tells us if we’re not sure if we’re a real alcoholic, “try some controlled drinking” if we react normally and can stop after 1 or 2 we may be a normal drinker.
I have run this experiment hundreds of times. The results were always the same. That’s why I’m sober today. Thank God. We’re they the same for you?
Yeah true thanks
Interesting. For me if I drank I usually got drunk enough to think other substances were a good idea. I’m not unique. Just a garden variety alcoholic who drinks and makes poor decisions. As far as drinking if I’m controlling it I’m not enjoying it. If I’m enjoying it I’m not controlling it.
Yeah so it’s better I don’t drink and I know that. Just in some moments it sucks. But whatever. I’m good.
Ahh the good ole rationalization approach.. that one alone kept me drinking for 15 years once when I first tried sobriety.
It is said that rationalization is just like masturbation ... either way we're just f^#*ing ourselves.
Glad you were able to make the choice that was right for you. Godspeed
The worst thing you can do in this life is lie to yourself. Only you know if you have a problem or not. Pray about it and good luck.
That is your addict self telling you your not an addict and you can handle it …. the first step is admitting we are powerless over our disease
Do you go to any meetings? There are a bunch of online zoom meetings that are 24/7 I suggest to start making new friends that are in recovery.
Im feeling in control and not all at once. It’s definitely a struggle
