I used to be a club promoter here in Houston, Tx. I’m thinking about doing opening an AA social night. One hour of open mic meet and greet, one hour of dinner and mock-tails, one hour of karaoke, and last hour of dance and DJ. What do you think? Would you go?

I love the idea and I would probably go to something like that eventually when I feel stronger in my recovery bc I love all of those things.. Not really doing karaoke but watching is fun for me haha. I’m just not sure if it would be a good idea for me bc most of my heavy drinking started out at clubs/bars/dinners but I would like to reacclimate to some sense of normalcy eventually & doing it without any alcohol around seems like a good starting point! I’m curious to see what people in longer recovery think.

That's a great idea! I would go to something like that for sure.

If I were in your shoes I'd be careful limiting my business with a certain affiliation no matter if it's AA, NA, etc. Those who are not part of that specific organization or had a bad experience may not join your amazing festivities. That can hurt your business long-term.

That's my two cents but you know best.

If it was conducted in an alano club or similar environment, I would likely go. However, if your effort is to replicate a club environment I would be cautious. To me there is a difference between sober fun and trying to recapture the experiences of my past.

I think it’s a great idea. And a lot of people are looking for things like that all the same fun sans alcohol/drugs

I think its a fantastic idea :bulb: to make it fun, safe, & sober. I don’t see it as recreating my past party days but rather creating new ones with like minded people. Our community needs that. Being sober doesn’t mean lack of fun :star_struck:
