I’ve been in a downward spiral for a few years and keep thinking I’ve hit rock bottom, yet then something worse happens…..this past week must have been the actual rock bottom though. I’m starting over with another “day one” as of today. I feel like I need so much help to stay on track….I’m starting an intensive outpatient program this week for therapy and I’m just so scared. I wish I felt stronger…..I wish I felt like my old self, happy and healthy…..I just want to finally feel better, and hoping for some encouragement to keep me going right now.
Danielle, I and so many others have been where you are. Congratulations on all the work you have already put in by getting into an outpatient program, posting here, and working on 24 hours being sober! That in itself is monumental. You are definitely not alone. I hit so many “rock bottoms” before one day it finally clicked. I thought my rock bottom the first time was waking up in Montana at a greyhound bus station with cops throwing me in a drunk tank. I’m from Kansas lol, I didn’t know how I got there. I had to be revived on a job site from withdrawals and I thought that was rock bottom. The point is that you are doing it and that’s amazing. The cliche 24 hours at a time works. I stuck to that. You are worth sobriety and you are very capable of it. I know that sounds impossible at first but it gets better with time. Hang in there.
Again, congrats
Thank you so much - it was an incredibly hard day but I made it through! Wow you made it all the way to Montana from Kansas by surprise huh? Certainly a story!
When I got home from work I dumped out the last of the booze that I had been drinking the night before, it felt good to do that.
People on this app seem so kind and caring, so supportive, I am so very grateful 🥲 I have a long way to go and a lot to prove to my family but I’m ready to do this. Thank you so much for your kind words.
We have your back! Try to be kind to yourself. You are taking steps forward. Your “old self” is gone. The new you is preparing to shine, Let her! It is a journey worth taking. Don’t try fixing everything in a hurry, you have time to do that after you get yourself better. My spiral down happened really fast after 10 years in the bottle. Seems like everything fell apart in one weekend. It took me months to build back trust, and the love of my family. I almost bought a bus ticket and ran from everything and everyone I know. But I made the choice to reach out to one man for help. Thankfully he answered that call. You can do it! We all believe in you.
Congratulations on making it through the day!! Do that tomorrow. Just 24 at a time or minute by minute if need be. And do it for yourself first and foremost. Your family will see it but you must do it for you. And you are very capable of doing so. Yes, this is a very great community. I am very new to it still. And yes, the trip to Montana is one heck of a story lol. I have plenty of them. Have a good night.
Tim thank you so much. I don’t know how I could handle all this without the support and encouraging words here. Today I’m struggling because of exactly like you said - I have a lot of trust to rebuild and while I am more determined than ever to fix things my family members are so hurt and don’t believe me anymore. Trying to stay grounded and remind myself that yes this is the new me and it will take time to prove myself but I will not give up and I will prove myself! Thank you again!
Don’t tell them, show them. It does take time but it can be fixed. If your family is willing have them look into an ALANON group. It teaches them how to navigate with family and friends who are addicts. A very good friend of mine is in a group and he even said without it he wouldn’t have known how to deal with his partner. It helps open the lines of communication a little easier.
Glad you got through the day. We have all been there . That is what I love about this app and the people on it, they know what I am feeling. This app is the first time I felt that there are people who know where I have been
