I’ve been replacing one high with another high

I’ve been clean/sober for 133 days now. About 2 weeks ago I realized I’ve been replacing the dopamine from my DOC and alcohol with the dopamine from s£x. I’ve been married 19 years but in the last 2 weeks I have managed to sign up for 5 different alternative life styles accounts. It’s like now that I can’t get that high feeling everyday I just want to “play” my way through a vast array of “high” situations. I’m out of town for the week and have a tinder meet up already planned for tomorrow. I just freaking got here today! I don’t know what to do. I just can’t imagine living out the rest of my life without getting high off something. Please don’t say anything mean. Has anyone else ever done this before? I can’t be the only one. Thank you for listening.

Absolutely makes sense. I have done this exact thing. So whether it’s $ex or masturbation, we are trading one thing for another.

Whole heartedly understand this.

I can relate although this time around I remained single and worked on myself. We always need more of everything. We have to be careful not to substitute one addiction for another. Good luck with whatever you decide.

As you probably already know, this is a very serious problem, and will only continue to get worse. Much like your addiction to alcohol, you are using this to escape from your reality. It’s great that you are aware of this, and have spilled the beans to us. If you don’t stop now, your secret life will take you down to unbelievable depths of pain, shame, and remorse. This will not end well. As this progresses, you will get more and more careless, until you either put yourself in extreme danger, and/or get caught. Try explaining your s£x addiction to your spouse, children, mom and dad, in laws, friends. If you think being an alcoholic brought you shame, this will be much worse. Please do something before your fantasy escape world collides with reality. First, treat it like you did alcohol. There’s no cutting back or moderation. Once you’re on the app and looking, you’re already too far done. Delete all the apps now. Erase everything you possibly can. I recommend going back to any 12 step meetings you were going to. You will need to vent your feelings. Without this obsessive compulsive behavior to mask your emotions, you are going to be on fire. This should be a wake up call that the problem isn’t the alcohol/drug/addictive behavior (food, s£x, gambling, shopping etc), but the problem comes from within. Heal from the inside out, not just abstaining, is our solution. Whether it’s therapy, 12 steps, or any other recovery program, it’s time to get to work so that you don’t destroy your life. Stop running, and face yourself. You will find a good person underneath all of this…I promise :peace_symbol:❤‍🩹

I really appreciate your response. My husband fully called me out on this behavior 2 days ago. (I am bi and have throughout our 19 years of marriage brought women home for us to enjoy. I was never out of control like this before. Now I don’t just want that I’ve been looking for other couples and even groups to join us. I’m so embarrassed admitting this.) He made a comment about me spending all my free time watching xxx videos. I’ve been trying to justify it buy how many people I see on these sites doing the same thing but I know deep down I’m going to far and doing things I wouldn’t have done months ago. Sorry I’m rambling I just don’t even know what to do next. Thanks for listening.

How did you get “fix” it?

What helped you to focus and work on yourself?

Porn is the gateway to acting out…as are all those websites. I advise you stay off completely. Same goes for masterbation. As you said, you will continue to need more and more…riskier and riskier until something really bad happens. Maybe you could try some zoom SA or SLAA meetings. You need to immerse yourself in recovery asap

I am completely familiar with replacing one high for another. Congrats on 133 days ! Im hoping you can use all that you’ve learned in the last 133 days about yourself to continue to help yourself. 133 days is huge ! You can totally get through this. Just do your best to focus on what is best for you.

Congratulations on 133 days that's awesome. I totally understand getting your or fix from other sources. I'm in the same boat instead of alcohol and benzos it's porn women and video games. I've been trying to add in more exercise and meditation and tea drinking to get the rest under control. Finding healthy activities for your mind and body is the key I think. I also think once you get going and feeling positive change it helps keep us going. Good luck meeting your goals.

That’s a really good idea. I didn’t even think of that honestly. Thank you.

I have been in a very similar situation. What’s important is you have admitted instead of making excuses. I can’t say I agree with the concept of no porn but to each is own. But I do agree you should really get involved in some sort of recovery bc it’s definitely like trading one high for another.
