I’ve been to dozen of meetings in a week and still haven’t found one I really need one … how do you all get sponser I’m on day 7 of being sober

It's a Christian Bases recovery group. They are all over the place. They also have people in there not just dealing with substance abuse issues,but a wide variety of things. It's really neat. I was able to meet tons of people through them.

I appreciate it but I don’t think a Christian based sponser will be a good fit for me

Took me a few weeks to find a sponsor. There is no time frame to find one. I chose mine based off shares, identifying with their story, and overall view on life/recovery/step/big book work. Keep going to meetings - won’t like all but eventually you will find a topic that hits home. Online meetings are also available so that’s another avenue you can explore. One day at a time :slightly_smiling_face:

I'd say look them up on you tube and watch one of the lessons. I mean what could it hurt. I know you will find someone that will be perfect you and this awesome journey you are on.

Gotta go with your gut. I found my sponsor pretty early, I was lucky. I just liked his vibe, and he was the only guy to come up to me after the meeting and tell me everything was going to be okay. He is still my sponsor and a good friend. You could ask openly at a meeting as well if there are any ladies who are willing to temp sponsor you to get you going. Don’t give up. You will find one.

I recommend the 20 & 20. Get to meetings 20 min early & stay 20 min late. This is a chance to get to know others. When you find someone who has what you want, ask her if she'll work with you.

Have you taken a phone list from any meetings? I message and talk to sober folks all the time and only 1 of them is my sponsor. The sponsor leads you through the steps (in 12 step recovery) but it’s great to have 6 or 10 sober buds who you touch base with throughout the day. Especially in early sobriety. Some newcomers but some with varying lengths of sobriety.

I found it difficult also. There were less women in recovery and I wondered if that was why

There are Agnostic AA meetings online everyday and in person Agnostic meetings around as well. Might be a bit more challenging to find in person Agnostic meetings in Florida(it's probably against the law, such a freedom loving state. Haha) but it is possible. Keep going to meetings, go to different ones until you find one that feels right and go from there.
