I’ve been in bed all day since Saturday.
I’m still trying to get sober to try and salvage my relationship between my loved ones. I haven’t been sober for more then a month for about 20 years now. I feel lost when I’m sober and complete when I’m not. Keep up the good work
Hi Alanna my name is Stephan. I’m going on 2 years and would love to say it gets easier. It does help to be around like minded people. Please reach out
Depression is so hard with managing sobriety too
I did the same this weekend. 44 days sober
Thank you for writing
I think your right. Rooms want to write it off as self pity too quick sometimes
I am truly believe in AA as a program of recovery that has worked for me. That being said, I know many fellows in the rooms who also struggle with clinical depression and other outside issues and seek professional help. An AA sponsor is simply someone who walks you through the 12 steps outlined in our literature, but they are not your doctor, psychiatrist, financial advisor, or guru. You should feel encouraged to know that many people in AA struggle with depression and other issues and find relief with a combination of therapy, psychiatric treatment, and outside spiritual counsel.
This is your recovery, no one else’s. Keep looking for the right combination that works for you
I hear you. I feel this way sometimes as well. Alcohilcs are made to thirst and that thirst will never go away. We just have to redirect what we thirst for. Finding new hobbies and friends is so important.
Depression is something that is SO hard to work through in your own. I was stubborn with it for so long, but eventually sought help. Therapy had always carried a negative stigma for me, but I am forever grateful I went and put in the work.
Much of my alcohol abuse was rooted in issues I was avoiding and needed to face. It’s not easy to turn it around. It takes hard work, discipline, maybe facing some ugly truths, and a fair amount of tears, but I promise you, it will be life changing work! Keep your head up, you’ve got this!
Stay strong and dot give in . That is a feat. That contains strength and it doesn’t come easy . Keep up the good work . I’m not quite there yet but I will be . You should be proud of yourself . Good job baby girl.
Time is a great healer but it takes great patience to wait for the contentment. However, it really will happen. I bet next 4th you’ll be able to find some things that engage you in happiness or contentment. Time is your best friend. Some people, like me, never that “pink cloud” of early recovery that people talk about.
You are so right. And I spent the day in bed yesterday too. I get so down on myself when I do it but I know it’s what we need from time to time. We’re finally loving ourselves again
Have you checked out SMART RECOVERY? The zoom meetings are great! People from all over the world! It’s a simple program with some good tools.
Yeah, but today they're all having a really shitty day, and we're not hungover or puking or withdrawing.
The only way to not feel lost while sober is to stay sober and find your way. Picture it like you're in your car in an area you're unfamiliar with. You either stay right where you are and never find your way, or you start moving about and learning the place so you don't feel so lost anymore.
It only works if you work it.
Read the literature..what does it say? Get out and help someone! get out of your self! you are having a pity party for yourself and no one wants to come. Get to a meeting and find someone that can benefit from your experience strength and hope
It's so fascinating how different everyone's bodies are.
After the umpteenth medication not working I'm finally on one that works. But every other one, like Lexapro, that works for people I know, have done absolutely nothing for me. I just kept stagnating while spending months getting my dosages upped, chatting with the psychiatrist, and so on. Though, I guess it's all part of what built up to me today.
What are you on now? After 9 years of lexapro I’m trying trintillix now one more day and I’m fully off the lexapro
I'm actually on Zoloft now after being on brintellix (same thing as trintellix, just what it was called when it was first approved here) lexapro, wellbutrin, effexor, and others I'm not recalling off the top of my head.
Check out stoic philosophy. It’s a great lift off point for a fulling life. Be patient, you’ve been masking a lot of stuff in your drunken stooper. You’ve stopped burning your life down. That’s incredible and fulfilling news. Call it the rebuild phase, and that might take years, but all the worth your health. Dig in, do things you’ve never done. Be curious, and open! No one had an unforgettable life changing event last night, but you did:) honor it, take inventory, and be kind to yourself. The best gift you can give is that of to others. It all comes back ten fold. Jump into being of service.
I’m on Prozac depression and buspirone anxiety. I just started Prozac about a month ago
