I want to make it to day one. Any advice to get through the first day would be super appreciated. Every night, I say tomorrow is the day. Then I drink whatever is left from the night before, or go and buy a bunch of shooters the next morning. I seriously don’t know how to do it, but I want to stop so bad.
Go to treatment. Get help.
Have you been to an AA meeting? Zoom or in person?
What a stupid response. I’m deleting this app.
These are all solutions Brandon. What do you think you should do?
That first day is a doozy. There are a lot different tactics, but immersion in non-drinking is common. If you feel like you want to talk with others, Whether that’s joining something like AA, SMART Program, the Luckiest Club, or Hello Sunday Morning. Worth looking at
If none of those tickle your pickle, try immersing in quit lit. I read books about sobriety all the time and podcast etc. Reading other stories makes me feel so seen
Writing is kinda intense at first (I mean you can keep it casual just be honest) but once you get going you can process a lot And usually start discovering truths. I
I’m also a strong proponent for getting a therapist - if you’re in AA that’s awesome, if not there are other great groups out there
whatever you do, I’m rooting you !! You GOT THIS. Please reach out to people here, there’s a lot of practical knowledge in here.
Text me if you get a devil on your shoulder. Or just need someone to talk to
Well there might be an issue. Sounds like she touched a sore spot. A lot of people who get sober off all kinds of compulsive substance use do so through treatment, there is no shame in it in these communities and also no shame in asking for help again and again, in fact some say it’s you best and only option. There is also a vein of open mindedness and intention to be respectful and that’s because there is a wide variety of people that seek help, people that would normally not mix. So reactive judgement isn’t one of the tools we use to interact with each other, and a lot of us realized we cause ourselves pain when we hurt others, so we stop. I hope you stick around and read through some of the posts and responses, a lot of what we go through is similar and can be addressed by similar means.
It’s hard on day one if you have been drinking for several days in a row. I suggest a detox then treatment.
