I want to stop using and drinking. I am starting to lose the things that are most important to me. I care but at the sametime I feel like I don’t. I see that my wife is hurting and it kills me but I feel like I’m not strong enough. Any advice?
Hi Brent,
The desire to stop is the first step. Pray and ask God or your higher power to release that desire to use & drink. Explore the underlying issues that cause you to medicate. This will be painful, but well worth it. You ought to have medical attention to detox.
Next learn your triggers and make changes.
All the best to you.

Brent - I am proud of you for acknowledging that you are hurting your wife and that you feel remorse for that. I am currently in a relationship where the guy I have been dating has fallen off the wagon and is using again and allowing everything around him to fall apart. I am trying to be strong and be there for him, but he blames me for every argument we have- when it is because he is pushing me aside. He doesn’t want to spend time with me and he now has friends that come around that are users. All he can say is that i require too much from him. Wow! In five years he has bought me one dozen roses, a pair of shoes, and maybe paid for my food a couple of times. I feel hopeless and angry that I am in love with someone that doesn’t care about me!
