I was asked to be a speaker at a meeting and share for 25 minutes. I am now committed for oct 1st.
I am the one at an in person meeting that when I share I feel like I have ear muffs over my ears, my voice shakes and I can’t even remember what I said. HOWEVER, this is an international zoom meeting which I think I can quite possibly do. The only thing that makes me nervous is there are 2 people in the meeting I know and do not o particularly care for. That’s makes me nervous.. judgment.
I have never spoke at a meeting. What do I say? I know this seems trivial but I can’t stop feeling anxious about it. Would love, love any advice here. Please…
Speak your truth. Regardless of the audience. I have chaired a few meetings before my relapse. There are some asses in every group lol.
And pray right before. I found it better when I didn’t even think of what i was going to speak about until that time.
Share your experience, strength and hope
Focus on the solution
Those 2 people’s opinions of you are insignificant
You don’t care for them as it is
You’re going to do great !
Who are you most comfortable speaking w ? Pretend you’re talking w them
Don’t look at computer screen to gage your audience
Make an outline of what you want to hit on and just let it rip
Send me the link
I’d love to hear you speak
What Kendall said
Your story is your story. You can't fück that up. Just be honest. Where you were, where you are and what got you here. Don't worry about judgement, it doesn't matter.
Great Job.
Can you do a practice run with someone? I used to do that prior to a speaking event and it really helped. A teacher in a communications class long ago suggested that.
I will!
When I was asked to speak at meetings I just spoke about how darn bad it was when I was using. Then how I found my way to recovery (rehab or meetings or the App or whatever. And then what I am doing now to stay sober.
You will be just great. Just don’t think about judgement because your story is probably someone else’s as well!
Thanks Dave
International meeting? Sounds interesting. Can you share? I'll pm if that's easier or you don't want to "put it put out there"
As far as advice goes, nothing different than what you already have been given, just be yourself and who cares what they think.
That's awesome. I look forward to chairing & being the main speaker at meeting & sponsoring others. Just tell your story don't be nervous think about the one person u could reach. Tell how it was what happened & where you're at today. U got this!
