I was sober for 1 year and have relapsed! I stopped drinking 2 days ago and really want to stop forever.
Cara, you deserve sobriety and a wonderful life. What can we do to support you?
Meetings?
Thanks the problem is that once I start I don’t have a shut off valve. This is why I have to stop all together! When something stressful hits me I turn to the bottle.
It’s not your fault. Alcohol is a highly addictive poison. Try not to think of it as you can never drink again, and reframe it as you don’t have to drink poison every day. That reframing really helped me and several people I know. One moment at a time. Books, meetings, talking to others. You deserve the best!
Thank you and so does my family! It’s been a tough road! I lost both my parents who I took care of. All of my siblings and I am the baby of the family. My brother was murdered by a stranger and my other brother couldn’t handle his death and turned to alcohol and he died at 56 and my sister of lung cancer at 57.
Oh, Cara. My heart hurts for you-that is a l o t ( understatements ) to experience, go through. May I ask : are you open to, is therapy an option for you? I wish I had words to help. You are amazing , one year of sobriety is a big huge deal. I am so sorry to read about all which you have been through, are going through. I do not have the words while I am grateful that you shared because certainly the more support you have, well. I feel as if you know what I mean? Please remain connected, Cara.
Cara, with the trauma you have been through, experienced-while I am far from any sort of “ expert “, please do not think about the word , forever…moment by moment. I echo Andrea s question: “ what can we do to support you “? … a sincere reminder that you are n o t alone, Cara.
Thank you both! I just recently retired and moved down South! I became a grandmother in June of last year and moved in August! I was ecstatic to say the least! I worked with my future daughter in law and she really doesn’t care for me! She has seven siblings and alone talks to one sister! I am flying back to see him and I was informed by my son that she does not want me to come to their house but he will bring my grandson to me to visit while I’m staying up there for a few days! He told me she blocked my number and she has no relationship with her mother. She is trying to alienate my son from me! We were very close he has contact with me and face times with the baby when she isn’t around! That was my trigger to start drinking again as I was informed the day before thanksgiving!
Honey that is all of us alcoholics problem! You are NOT alone! And it’s a malady of mind body and soul….we have to have help. Don’t do it alone. Get a support group and a sober buddy. Your future self will love you for it
Thank you I am
So the problem is you don’t have a shut off valve? I think that’s the definition of alcoholic - defines me 100% -
I would be fine if I could just have a couple but I can’t! It’s the truth I have accepted which defines me as well! I can’t have even a sip!
Meetings, surrender, and be new
