I was sober for 42 days. I’m now on day two. I could really use some encouragement and support. New to the app as well.
Welcome back Briana! Congrats on day 2. Some of us don’t make it back. Give yourself a break but let go of self pity. There’s no need to feel down about it. Our disease is real. Alcohol is cunning, baffling and powerful!
I had to make a big change in my life after my third relapse. The first few times I tried to get sober I did it on my own and/or wasn’t honest with those that wanted to help me. So, what’s different this time? Everything, I have gone through a complete psychic change. The first thing I did was ask for help. Went to group therapy, IOP and then residential treatment. Now I’m actively working the AA program with a Sponsor and I have 2 sponsees I’m teaching/working the steps with. This is a we program. I found G0d, I pray daily, I journal, I’m open minded about all possibilities, I’m reading/listening to the Bible, I’m meeting new sober friends, making amends to those I’ve harmed and my daily practice is to be kind and loving to all. I’m enjoying my new found way of life one day at a time. Just for today.
My advice is to get to a meeting, make new friends there, get a sponsor who knows the steps, read the Big Book, work the steps and then help others with their sobriety. Give back to your community. The best thing I’ve done for myself is help another person. I pray for you too stay on this righteous path. I pray for you to live another day sober. Have a wonderful day filled with love and peace within.
Hi Briana, Welcome back my friend!! It takes a lot of courage to come back and thank God you were able to!! Like Kevin said, some don't...I relapsed a few times before I finally stayed. I had to want this as bad as I wanted to get drunk! And the last day I came to, I was 28. I laid there thinking, I was too scared to live and to scared to die and I didn't really care which one happened so I had to make a choice!
I promise you, if you choose to live you won't regret the time and effort you spend chasing your sobriety. After all, you've already wasted time getting loaded right?? I had to bust immediately. I went to a meeting, listened, found someone I could work with, did my steps with rigorous honesty, and started helping others! This only works if you work it!! But you are so worth it my friend!! God put you on this planet for a reason and it wasn't to waste the chance that you've been given!!
God bless you my friend! Hit me up if you wanna chat! I've also found this app to be a pretty cool tool to have in my pocket throughout the day!
Good Morning Briana! Welcome here and welcome back to sobriety. I have nothing to add to what Kevin and Sandy have replied above. My experiences have been similar to theirs. Others may reply with alternatives. I believe it takes a daily program that is based on changing the way you think/feel. Whatever you choose, count me in as someone who wishes to see you succeed and be happy
I will agree with all the above. What also helped me was reading Alcohol Explained by William Porter. I read other good books on alcoholism but that was the easiest to understand. I wish you the best reach out anytime
I was 3 1/2 years clean, relapsed and am just coming back & celebrated a month yesterday. We get this thing 24 hours at a time. The idea is to learn from where we slipped up in our program so that our setback is weak and our bounce back is strong. Please inbox me if you wish. Be good to you.
Completely agree with the others on this thread. Welcome! Glad you’re back! Lots of people on here working strong programs. Please stay connected and keep coming back.
